We should do to Tehran what we did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

"Can't we just go kick Iran's ass?"That's why Iran's keeping the locations of the sailors secret. And we don't want to hit them by accident.

"And on sky it was clearly stated that the 15 were in Iraq, not Iran. Now Iran calls for US troops to leave Iraq?
"The Senate withdrawal date is the least of our worries now."Actually, this could work against the Congress' White Flag bill(s)

How's that? I'm interested to hear what you have to say about that.

I don't even know how I got to this thread, it was like an invisible ping or something.
Please allow me to thank you both for your service and our freedom. I'm hoping to learn to shoot at the Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot in April. When I do, I'll be thinking of you both.

The European Union vowed solidarity with Britain, but some diplomats also warned against avoid unnecessary escalation.
"We must put very strong pressure on the Iranians," French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said in a radio interview in Paris. "I think we must avoid confrontation and escalation."

Britain should take the video, find the exact spot via triangulation against shore points, and show the world that the location was in Iraqi waters. The Iranians already goofed once by providing coordinates "proving" the Brits were in Iranian waters - and the coordinates proved the opposite. They changed the coordinates.
The problem is, liberals deny reality and create their own. Since the liberals are supported by the liberal media and fall lock-step with the UN, even video will not be believed.

"The Iranians gave the same coordinates to us, before they realised they'd actually given us coordinates proving we were not in their waters."
It's more simple to say they "Kerryed" the coordinates.

Won't happen. The West has already gone wobbly in the knees over Iraq and the WOT - there's no way they'll go hot against Iran. I agree but there is a lot of difference in Iraq and Iraq as far as mission. In Iraq, we thought they would welcome liberation and would try their hardest to build a great nation. We were right in thinking that at the time but now we know different. The vast majority of our casualities have come from the 'nation building' part of the mission.
With Iran, hopefully we have learned our lesson and will just after military targets from above and don't even bother with ground operations.
Ironically, the ordinary people of Iran are probably more friendly to the US than the people of Iraq so if we just hit military targets, maybe they would rebel. If not, no biggie.
To: zarf; RockinRight
You're kidding right? Nothing will happenUnfortunately this is more than likely what will happen. This mirrors the US-Chinese incident in 2001 where the US made demand after demand and ultimately agreed to whatever the Chinese wanted.
To: Mr. Silverback
They'll release them alive, but not for a long time...assuming that we don't put any pressure on and speed things upAgreed, and why should they? The US and UK ultimately hold the much bigger stick but for various reasons cannot use it. This means that Iran pretty much holds all the cards and will hold them until they sense that world opinion might be turning against them for the incident.
In the meantime, Iran can show the rest of the Arab world that the UK and US are paper tigers - just like China did in 2001.
I really don't know what the UK and US can do in this situation. The most effective option would be to start bombing Iranian military assets but under what authority? There is not a state of declared war and UN resolutions authorizing military responses are months away (if ever).
I know that the UK and US don't actually need permission from anyone to go after Iran but I don't believe that political realities in the UK and US will prevent any "escalation" of the Iraq war. Iran knows this and shoving it in our faces.
To: expatguy
That was sarcasm right? If not then you need to wake and smell the coffee. There are a lot of pro-american iranians. Ironically, the everyday person in Iran is probably friendlier to the US than the Iraqis or the Saudis.
From what I've gathered, the people of Iran tend to be more educated and advanced than most of the other muslim nations. It seems like they are the ones that would like to be the next India, China or even the next Dubai rather than the next Palestine.
To be clear, the Iraq war has taught us that we should never overestimate a muslim's desire for freedom - Iran's general populace just seems to be more reasonable than most.
