Time-barred - 2 years in our state for civil. It would probably take her 10 years to get the first draft together.

There are a few that should stick.

False imprisonment
Uttering false official statements

Just to name a few and they should all be directed at Nifong and the great witch of Durham.

No imprisonment -- the boys were free on bail (extortion, maybe for the amount imposed [joke]), but no false imprisonment.

As to false and misleading statements -- that comes under the Bar censure -- that's what will cause him to lose his license to practice law.

As to whether he can draw his salary after he is disbarred, that's for the state legislature (I've heard rumors they are working on that little problem). You have to go with what you know will work or it's throwing good money after bad.

P.S. That's unless Judith Miller wants to give her an advance and hype it on whatever news program she's a consultant for now. Then, Judy can write the check to the boys and wait for her big return.

This was bound to happen. This is a little late in happening, but thank goodness.

BTW, making a false statement to the police is not the same as perjury in sworn testimony in court. Of course it probably was at some point a sworn statement to the police. But certainly Mangum should be charged for what she can be charged.

Case in point?

The families of the lax team asked the administration to ensure the privacy of the lax team members by taking the roster w/ photos off the Duke web site. Duke failed to do so for 9 days thereby enabling production of the infamous poster containing team member names and photographs that was circulated on campus and in Durham. That allowed the lax team members to be targeted for abuse by the campus radicals and the New Black Panther Party which is a known violent hate group. This became particularly critical when the NBPP announced a march on campus and Duke's initial response was "Hey, we believe in free speech, come on down!". It was only after the NBPP announced that it was going to "interview" lax team members that Duke told them they couldn't come on campus. Meanwhile the lax team members had to move out of their dorm rooms and hide during the middle of final exams.

Short form: there are very strict laws about protecting student privacy and Duke could be in violation of them.

"Time-barred - 2 years in our state for civil. It would probably take her 10 years to get the first draft together."

PPS - That's depending on how many times she has to edit her story to make it work out. In her case, Jesus may return before she gets it straight.

whatta sham!

they oughta:

1. charge nifong
2. disbar nifong
3. get an apology from the local newspapers and tv
4. have the local churches and university groups that perpetuated this fraud post pictures of the girl accuser and nifong around town, like they posted the pictures of the boys.
5. have a civil rights candlelight procession admitting the falsity of their charges and actions.

"BTW, making a false statement to the police is not the same as perjury in sworn testimony in court. Of course it probably was at some point a sworn statement to the police."

That was our dilemma, we had to wait until our AV hit the witness stand for anything of substance.

Crystal could have stopped this at any time. She chose to not do that. She continued to tell lie after lie. She is not a victim.

I might add that a conviction might get social services to take away her children and maybe, just maybe, put them someplace where they won't grow up like her.

Don't know if this was already posted, but apparently the News&Observer had a working story on their site that was already being prepped in response to the charges being dropped. It was pulled quickly, but the first page of it was archived here:

Yep, you've described a disordered person....drunk, druggie, whore just looking to make things fall out her way no matter who she hurts.

That certainly exhonerates Nifong. /sarcasm
