Woodward adds twist to CIA leak case ~ Armitage tape at CNN reveals truth of Plame exposure

Listening to the full Woodward tape of Under Secretary of State Richard Armitage leaking the news about Plame must be giving Fitzgerald nightmares. CNN has posted the full tape played at the trial and it is astounding. The part that got me was when Armitage said “His wife named him”, and Woodward asks, “Why doesn’t this get out?”. Then Armitage says, on June 13th 2003, basically what Andrea Mitchell would say months later when she was talking off the cuff on CNBC. Armitage laughingly says “Everyone knows”. In the words of Mitchell.

MURRAY And the second question is: Do we have any idea how widely known it was in Washington that Joe Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA?

MITCHELL: It was widely known among those of us who cover the intelligence community and who were actively engaged in trying to track down who among the foreign service community was the envoy to Niger. So a number of us began to pick up on that. But frankly I wasn’t aware of her actual role at the CIA and the fact that she had a covert role involving weapons of mass destruction, not until Bob Novak wrote it.

But Armitage goes further and explains HOW everyone knew. Woodward repeats back incredulously “Everyone knew”? and Armitage provides the hard evidence of who was talking about Plame” .. because Joe Wilson has been calling everybody! He’s pissed off ’cause he’s looked at as some low level guy…”. I predicted long ago, and again just prior to the trial, it would come out that Joe and Valerie were both sources for Kristof and others. Armitage is not saying ‘everyone knows’ who Joe Wilson is (though they did).

He is saying “everyone knows” who Plamne is because Wilson was calling everybody and spilling the beans on his wife! It is quite clear what Armitage is saying, and what I am betting he will testify too.

And .. how Fitz could hear that tape and then continue on with this case is just beyond me.

Roger was subbing for Rush today and talked about NBC being more involved in this "leak" than has been revealed. I was busy today and didn't get a chance to hear what was said.

all these reporters who called Rove to ask him about this - they already knew the answer to what they were probing him for. they weren't acting as reporters, they were actively trying to entrap him.

Find a tall tree -- get some ropes --- and find Fitzgerald and Wilson, for openers.

To call this farce a travesty of justice does not even begin to state the case. of course it's not farcical for Scooter Libby, who will be dependent on twelve DC loons to return a not guilty verdict, if that's possible for any twelve DC'ans judging a lackey of the evil Dick Cheney!

Why hasn't the judge put a stop to this?

Bingo..it was as orchestrated as a play.
People really have no idea how far under the covers the Drive-by media is with the Dems. They are the only thing keeping the dreaded disease liberalism alive, for their party would be exposed without this blatant collusion.

The facts don't matter...it's just whether a Democrat prosecutor can persuade a jury mostly or entirely comprised of Democrats to convict a representative of the hated Bush administration.

Democrats don't care about the abuse of the judicial system for political means, or they would have been angry with the Clintons for using the judicial process to punish their enemies, or even earlier with Lawrence Walsh for his partisan use of the special prosecutor's powers to hurt George H. W. Bush. Ronnie Earle in Texas was applauded for bringing down Tom DeLay.

the judge hasn't been very fair to Libby, excluding the whole issue of Plame's status and the machinations around the revelation, from the trial.

Seems likes grounds for an appeal right there, if necessary...

AJ Strata has some comments about the Judge:

Abandon The Plamegate Ship!

***********************AN EXCERPT ******************************

Bob Woodward just delivered a bombshell regarding the period when Joe Wilson was talking to every reporter out there, and was literally bragging in public he was the mysterious ex-ambassador - because when reporters in DC know who you are, it takes less than a day to track down your spouse!

***************************************************

Update:: Don’t miss Clarice Feldman’s take on today’s opening broadside for the defense team.

***********************

Judge Walton and Fitz are on the ropes. Walton is basically daring the Appeals Court to overturn him. Not a good sign for the government’s case. Some lunch and deep breathes hopefully will calm him down.

sure, the left only needs the conviction now - whether its overturned on appeal 2 years from now, doesn't matter to them.
