Cartoon Network boss quits over bomb scare
CNN ^ | 02/09/2007

The head of Cartoon Network resigned Friday after the network's guerilla marketing scheme for one of its shows went bad last week and led to a bomb scare in Boston - a fiasco that cost its parent company $2 million. In a letter to employees, Jim Samples, the general manager and executive vice president of the network, wrote: "I deeply regret the negative publicity and expense caused to our company as a result of this campaign. As general manager of Cartoon Network, I feel compelled to step down, effective immediately, in recognition of the gravity of the situation that occurred under my watch."

I am sure this guy did not directly create this campaign. Wonder is, in this case, stuff rolls down hill?

In the meantime, the 2 dolts in Boston are still collecting checks and laughing at the mess they caused.

What happened with the 2 freaks with the hair? Did they get fired or are charges still pending? They should be charged with being totally obnoxious, arrogant and stupid. Oh then they should be fired!

I hate Boston, and I really don't like to use that word.

This is dumb. Time Warner and Cartoon Network should have called out Boston (especially that boob of a mayor) for being ridiculous and subsequently told them where to shove it.

That is my question also. I know a fish rots from the head down, but no mention of the people that developed the campaign, or the implementers.

I am sure this guy did not directly create this campaign.

I am sure that he had to sign off on it?

Anything that unorthodox would have to go to a president of the network for approval.

I would be surprised if it had to be approved by the parent company.

They had to make a show of him losing his job to get them off the hook.

Never underestimate a large business in CYA mode.

Human sacrifices still take place, but on a modernized level as this person has been degraded on the job market and it will cost him a piece of his life.

This guy may or may not have been directly responsible for those two yoyo's, but I give him credit for taking the blame as the top man. We need more people like that in our government. If we had those type, half would be gone.

From an advertising perspective, the campaign was brilliant. Too bad the guy felt the need to step down.

No charges as of yet for Peter "Borat" Berdovsky and
Sean Stevens...I think one guy got hit by a car and
the ambulance was severely delayed due to the stunt/
furor.

Now, when is the head of the Snickers company going to clear out his desk?

Seems like nobody ever admits to getting fired anymore except celebrities.

I doubt he's going voluntarily. I'm sure it's one of those "quit or be fired" types of situations.

Hey! The buck has to stop somewhere. A big shot losing his job over an arrogant, presumptuous and insulting advertising campaign that inconvenienced thousands of ordinary people seems right to me. Actually, I would feel better if he were going to jail, too.
