Gettin' closer, but still not there. The Universe IS cyclic, but horribly formulated models like this don't get close to it.
There was no Bang, there will be no Crunch. Black holes, energy, and matter go through an infinite loop of transitions. New, becoming old, being recycled, becoming new again.
What they are seeing as "inflation" is just relative "movement". The edges of space are where billions of light years worth of interference patterns prevent a cogent picture of what's there. The "candle in the fog" phenomena. And yes, I've heard of theories attempting to explain their way around that one.
Sounds a lot like who Democrats think higher taxes are a good idea.
As for God... dunno. Call him up and ask him.

I just phoned G-d. This is what he/she/it told me:
G-d created an uncountable number of universes 'cause he/she/it couldn't come up with anything perfect. Rested well after all that work. Each universe began with a bang, expanding until there was no longer any cohesion. G-d decided that it might be fun to mix things up, so matter from universes began to meet and gravitate towards each other. This created pockets of matter that experienced infinite contraction, eventually contracting into the nothingness of a single, infinitely unmeasurable point.
And, multiple new bangs, with new universes.
Eventually, G-d hopes that one of these combinations will be the perfect creation he/she/it couldn't come p with.
