We Are Even Less Amused Than We Were Before
The Stiletto ^ | January 19, 2007 | The Stiletto

You’ll no doubt recall the Big Announcement England’s Prince Charles made about a month ago about reducing his "carbon footprint" by taking commercial flights instead of royal helicopters and private planes. At the time, The Stiletto predicted he would insulate himself from the discomforts of today’s cramped and dirty planes by commandeering the first-class section. The Stiletto underestimated his chutzpah.

His Royal Minus and a 20-member posse have booked the entire first-class and business-class sections – 62 seats in all, according to thisislondon.co.uk – for a flight to New York later this month. "This means their effective 'carbon footprint' is three times what it would be if every seat was used and the short return trip to New York will result in the emission of 24 tonnes of carbon dioxide." The Prince is crossing The Pond to receive the Global Environmental Citizen Award from Harvard Medical School.

Charles didn't start out this way. But I think the growing realization that he will be an old man by the time his mum passes on (his grandmother lived to 101 and the Queen is healthy as a horse) has combined with decades of life in a media fishbowl to make him barmy in the head, just a bit.

His sister Anne was smarter; she dropped out of sight and stayed that way.

I just barfed. Why can’t the Brits have a revolution like they had in France?

The French revolution was a mistake, unlike ours. This is for various reasons. I don’t know what the Brits should do, because we’re making the same mistakes here. Relish your freedom to speak your mind, what little you have left of it.
