Broncos right cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed this morning. After leaving a nightclub in a limousine, Williams was shot and killed near 11th and Grant in Denver. The team confirmed the death of Williams. A female passenger also was shot, according to a source familiar with Williams.

Williams was 24.

"I learned from the Denver Police Deprtment that this incident has occured," Williams' agent, Jeff Griffin said early Monday morning. "No other details have been released. I sincerely offer my condolences and feelings to his family."

Williams was the Broncos' starting right cornerback and played his final game for the team in a 26-23 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated Denver from the playoffs on New Year's Eve.

WHO?

First: A VERY Happy and Healthy new year to every FReeper and their families.

I am delighted to be "out of the loop".
I have no interest in team sports and do not follow them or the individuals that feature within them.
I have never heard of this person, but it appears that he, as many other persons in Sports and the alleged "Music" field are somewhat prone towards catching fatal bullets whilst visiting nasty places.

Seems like a pretty easy problem to solve. Dont go there!
I'm sorry for this fellows problem but more sorry for his family.
Celebs (or all colors and types and gender )seem to do this a lot, dont they?

Basketball is a lost cause IMHO

Not just your, HO, unfortunately. What a pity, it was the most active, atheltic of all the major sports, IMHO. Too bad the fools who play it ruined it.

I can't see how any fan would be ticked off with his performance last night.

On Sunday against the 49ers, he had a sack, a forced fumble, and led the team with seven sacks.

That is what happened to Lyman Bostock, a baseball player for the Angels, in the 1970s.

mom used to tell me "Be home by midnight. Nothing good ever happens after that."

What  ? ... It was New years Eve.  The whole point is to stay out until after midnight

I looked up the Bostock shooting in Wikipedia and Lyman was mistakenly shot, he had no relationship to the woman whose husband was trying to kill. It turns out this guy was ruled incompetent at trial because of his wife's infidelity. He served 21 months. Lyman was a very good man.

Oh, isn't this just a great way to start off the New Year.

What a downer, sad and very mournful way for his family & friends. Prayers to them.

Thanks a lot, thug.

that was my thought, too, mware. Sore loser? Some sports fans ARE nuts. On the other hand, it could have been a drive-by shooting, not that Williams was personally targetted.

I don't have a problem with a 24 year old going out with a date on New Year's Eve after midnight. In fact, it strikes me as perfectly normal. It's what I did, what my 20-something kids do. I don't see a lot of sense in judging that particular behavior. Getting shot and killed is another story.

My sincerest condolences to the family, friend, teammates and fans of WIlliams.

I arrived home from work at 2:15am Saturday morning two weeks ago. I worked a 22 hour day.

What did I do wrong?

Am I a pimp, whore, thief or a man who works hard at an honest job to support his family?
