Katie Couric finished her first sweeps period at CBS in increasingly familiar territory: third place.
At the end of November sweeps, the three network newscasts finished roughly in their customary positions, with NBC first, ABC second and CBS a distant third.
NBC's "Nightly News With Brian Williams" was first in both total viewers (9.57 million) and the 25-54 demographic with a 2.4 rating/9 share. ABC's "World News With Charles Gibson" finished second in total viewers, with 8.92 million, and second in the 25-54 demo, with a 2.3 rating/9 share.
CBS' "Evening News With Katie Couric" was third in total viewers with 7.73 million, more than a million behind second-place ABC. In the 25-54 demo, CBS was third with a 2.0 rating/7 share.
During the last week of November sweeps, all three anchors traveled to Amman, Jordan, where Couric scored key interviews with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, but her efforts didn't budge the ratings.
During two days in Jordan, NBC averaged 10 million viewers, slightly ahead of ABC with 9.58 million, while CBS was well behind with 7.77 million.

Good news!
Seven million people actually watch Couric.
Time to bring back Dan Rather. Or maybe Walter Cronkite.
It must really sting to have your butt kicked by Brian Williams and Charles Gibson...
Part of the problem is her ghastly plastic Pelosi-face. Once these aging shrews start pulling their skin back into their skulls, it's all over for having any meaningful communication via facial expression. And the old folks at the nursing homes, a goodly portion of SeeBS's demographic, don't go for the death-mask look.
I would love to see her without all of that makeup.
FYI..there was a blurb on TVNewswer a few days ago. Some CBS suit said that Katie had supposedly "improved their ratings in the 18-45 demographic enough to cover her salary.." What should be really frightening ( to Viacom shareholders) about that statement is that here you have a CBS executive actually, publicly, holding this out as a viable business model. It's the equivalent of Custer saying " the situation's under control, send more Indians"
Frankly, I can't even figure out why anyone watches any of the alphabets for news.
I saw that story. Funny thing about shareholders. They expect a little more return than just "covering her salary."
Wow....I didn't know the old bag was still on the air!
Didnt they pay 14 Million dollars for her. They may as well have hired Ronald McDonald. What possessed them to believe Katie Couric had a genuine following. Maybe if they are lucky and act quick they can hire Rosie O'Moose from the View.
7 million non English speaking people without cable TV.
In other news: 27.35 million Americans cannot afford cable TV.
"I would love to see her without all of that makeup."
Better you than me.
