In much of the Near East, it was quite a long time after the Muslim conquest before Islam became the majority religion.

It was something like other imperial governments. For instance, it took hundreds of years for Latin to supplant the Celtic languages of the region.

Dunam, four to the acre. Old measurement of land still in use in the middle east.
Ashlar stone, a stone that has been quarried and neatly dressed into building stones. Often used as stone facings. The presence of ashlar stones at this site indicate that this was a long standing, well established town with a good commerce base. Only the wealthy build with ashlar stones.

My wife's family tree traces back to Jewish believers in Christ in Spain. There, before the Inquisition, they met in synagogue with the rest of the community. During the time that the family had to flee from the Inquisition they ended up in Dutch lands where the local Rabbi's would not allow believers to meet with the rest of the community.
So the believer portion of the family fled to the new world and came over to America.
It was common for biblical Jews and the believing Jews to live and worship together in the old days. It was the rise of Rabbinical Judaism that split the family. This archeological find is significant in that it shows this taking place inside Israel as a normal part of life. It is also politicaly significant as it shows the Jews and Christians living in peace together, and the result of the influx of Islam. Death to the pre-existing inhabitants of the land. Despite what Islam claims today as a peaceful co-existance, these ruins represent reality in stone.
