Terri's Story
Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation ^ | December 3,2006 | Schindler Foundation

Posted on 12/03/2006 3:03:26 AM PST by 8mmMauser

Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.

Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.

Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the family’s dog, Bucky.

Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.

In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.

The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terri’s church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.

In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.

In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy – neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.

On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco’s Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.

BB, Thanks for posting the link. The HPA links page is an excellent resource. It is a great place to direct newcomers especially those who suffer toxic effects of Kool Aid.

Judge not, redux...

Carrie Hutchens writing in the Dakota Voice zooms in on the stunning behavior of judges and especially the one who judged Terri. The story beyond this excerpt is compelling.

.....................

The rules may change everywhere depending upon the players involved, but it appears that some in Florida either don't mind being obvious about any of it or think we're all too senile to remember and comprehend what has been taking place down there. In either case, they ended up with an audience they most likely weren't counting on.

Florida is the state where the Judicial Qualifications Commission has filed charges against Judge Cliff Barnes for supposedly breaking judicial rules. According to the TCPalm, "Barnes is accused of demeaning the "integrity and independence" of the judiciary by publicly airing his complaints, including writing a guest column for Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers called: "Criminal justice partners must get on same page." That column allegedly "provides misleading information to the public concerning the judicial system," according to the notice of formal charges filed against him. "This cumulative misconduct constitutes a pattern and practice unbecoming a judicial officer and lacking the dignity appropriate to judicial office, with the effect of bringing the judiciary into disrepute," the complaint states."

I find this more than a little amusing!

The JQC thinks it is a horrendous wrong for Judge Barnes to have shared his thoughts through the press? Where was this horror back in 2003 when it appears a sitting judge was talking to the press about a pending case? That's right, seems as though they weren't worried about Judge George Greer allegedly making statements to the press about the Terri Schiavo case while motions were still before him. Nor were they concerned about Greer making negative comments about the governor. Apparently that doesn't count. It's dignified to put down the governor, I guess. Just can't put down the actions of another judge or procedure. To do the latter is treading on sacred ground, it would seem.

Haleigh Poutre update, of a sort...

LifeNews adds their coverage to the story of yesterday.

.....................

Sudyka last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."

"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.

“I think they're afraid of what she might say,” Sudyka told the newspaper.

In response to the press conference, DSS spokeswoman Mia Alvarado told the Boston newspaper “We have a request from the courts not to speak on any matter related to Haleigh, and we feel we need to honor that request."

Wesley J. Smith, a bioethics watchdog and attorney who has written on euthanasia issues agrees the state should look into the problems.

Kucinich, a name that rhymes with spinach... Unfortunately for me, I am allergic to spinach as well. It is interesting to imagine that as the name of a president.

Kucinich voted against abortion before he voted for it.

This technique really appeals to lefties although it does not appear to work very well.

.........................

During his Congressional tenure, Kucinich frequently compiled strong pro-life voting records and eagerly with pro-life leaders in his home state of Ohio and expressed appreciation for their efforts against abortion.

But when he sought the national spotlight, the Congressman began casting votes that troubled pro-life observers.

Not long after, Kucinich began his first quixotic quest for the Presidency -- and proclaimed himself "pro-choice," -- his voting record deteriorated. His votes have been militantly pro-abortion ever since.

In fact, in the 109th Congress, the National Right to Life Committee gives Kucinich a 0% pro-life voting record.

During this session, the congressman has voted to force taxpayers to pay for abortions in numerous instances and embryonic stem cell research, he voted against parental notification four times and against allowing Terri Schiavo's parents to take their case to save her life to federal courts.

Are we extremists? Is this Guy a leftie? Does the bear....

These are the topics this guy thinks are extremist: Winning an election, trying to protect Elian, trying to save an innocent life. Maybe that is how it is to types on the left, maybe that is their reality. They see themselves as fair and balanced.

Florida is the nation's fourth most populous state. It has a diverse population, and its electoral votes are pivotal in deciding who becomes president. The state has had more than its share of grand, bizarre and extremist political theater, most notably the recount in 2000, the Elián González drama and the Terri Schiavo debacle.

Can we imagine? A new source of stem cells may obviate the "need" for embyronic stem cells in the first place. It must be causing the pro-killing advocates to pull their hair out by the roots!

Ping to wagglebee thread.

Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) -- Scientists at the Medical College of Wisconsin have found what may be another alternative to embryonic stem cells. They have found that adult stem cells from hair follicles, which don't involve the destruction of human life to obtain, are different from other types of skin cells.

>> whose body is still warm and who, to a layman, seems to be sleeping.

Fifty years ago, even forty, doctors and everyone else agreed that this patient was alive -- because he is. That was before medicine got into the cannibal business and needed fresh body parts for transplantation. That called for a new definition of "death," which was duly provided by a committee of Harvard eggheads. Namely, a patient in a deep coma was "brain dead" and could be cut up for parts. Now all the big hospitals have a surgical team on call 24/7 waiting for good victims.

Whole lot of bioethicking going on. One wonders if the premise of abortion that children can be disposed of at one's convenience, carries over to older children and leads to this kind of abuse?

Take a look at the bioethicking on steroids going on in India.

New Delhi, India (LifeNews.com) -- A new report released on Tuesday by the United Nations agency UNICEF finds that India's practice of abortion on female unborn children is still alarmingly high. The report indicates 7,000 fewer female babies are born every day because parents can determine the sex of their unborn baby and kill her before birth.

Uh, oh. This writer did not take his poliical correctness pill. He will never make it in the media!

>> The Terry Schiavo situation was a wakeup call to families who realized they left incomplete instructions for their health care wishes in case of temporary or long-term disability.

In fact, Terri left no instructions whatsoever. That did not bother in-laws determined to bump her off. According to Judge Greer and three people named Schiavo, Terri left "clear and convincing" instructions to kill her by slow torture.
