:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Fighting Jihad in Cyberspace
-Full Story-

The setting is familiar to anyone who watches the evening news. A large, executive-style desk, a laptop perched on top, a logo in the background and a screen showing shifting images to reinforce the newsreader's message. The only difference is the presenter, who is swathed in an Arab headdress and masked to hide his identity, and the subject of the broadcast, a call for an Islamic state for Iraq and a vow to use Iraq as a launching pad to crush the "Zionists" in Israel.

Welcome to the "Voice of the Caliphate", the latest offering from the Global Islamic Media Front, widely regarded as the mouthpiece of al-Qaeda and the worldwide jihadist movement.

Distributed over the internet, the mock news format is just one of many employed by al-Qaeda's highly sophisticated propaganda arm.

Of course.

Other than most of us perking up our ears to the names of the towns and streets...which I certainly did. The one main nexus with many incidents...is "New Jersey"...the anthrax...the DC snipers (they were living in NJ and returning there after their shootings)...recent e-coli outbreak...former governor who hired a foreigner as the NJ Homeland Security Director...abandoned trucks with $500,000...missing tanker trucks...Jersey City...Newark...and the following:

The Justice Department disclosed for the first time yesterday that two of the Sept. 11 terrorist hijackers used computers at a New Jersey state college library to access the Internet and order their airplane tickets.

...another possible terrorist connection in the horrifying case of the family of Coptic Christians who had their throats cut after the father argued with Muslims on a web site:

ABC News has learned that a cousin of the slain family has been a translator working for the prosecution in the trial of Lynne Stewart. She is the radical lawyer accused of smuggling messages from imprisoned Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, to terrorist cell members and associates..

"If there are sleeper cells in the country I would think this might be the type of event they would wait for."

I agree. Then there is the "lone jihadi" and the "sudden jihadi." Whenever his/her timing is right; it's a go for that person. Then there are the homegrown jihadis, already in place and of course, how many jihadis have been smuggled into the USA via the borders and...

Saudi Ambassador aburlptly resigns, leaves U.S. (12/13/06)

Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States, abruptly flew out of Washington on Monday after informing U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that he would be leaving the post after only 15 months on the job, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

Turki, a long-serving former intelligence chief, told his staff Monday that he wanted to spend more time with his family, according to Arab diplomats. Colleagues said they were shocked at the decision.

The abrupt departure, without fanfare, parties and tributes that normally accompany a leading envoy's departure, comes as a result of his ailing brother, Prince Saud al-Faisal, the highly influential Saudi foreign minister....

I've painted pine cones gold with the kids before, but (thankfully) haven't had the pleasure of using deer droppings in our art projects.

LOL, good luck with that.

I agree, it sounds odd and there's not quite enough information in the article to get a clear snapshot of exactly what happened.

Whenever a politician leaves, isn't the reason always pressing "family issues"?

Saudi Ex-Ambassador Urged No US Talks With Iran (12/14/06)

WASHINGTON: The US State Department has said Saudi Arabia's former ambassador here recently visited Washington, adding spice to reports he was involved in a power struggle which caused his successor to quit.

Prince Bandar bin Sultan, was the kingdom's top envoy to the United States for 22 years until 2004. A US newspaper reported that he was in the US capital recently to counsel top officials against heeding mounting calls for talks with Iran or Syria.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack reluctantly confirmed Prince Bandar met Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, when pressed by reporters, but refused to divulge the substance of their conversation. ...

I'm a bit concerned about the ducks, as well. Especially since Mr. RR found three dead crows on our property. I wanted him to call the Game and Fish Dept., but he just buried them. If we find more, I will get a bit insistant.

That one is a puzzler as well.
Seems Prince Turki was ticked that Prince Bandar was at the White House meeting with Condi.

2 guilty in Vail arson ( Eco-Terrorists )
Rocky Mountain News ^ | December 14, 2006 | Joe Garner

Posted on 12/14/2006 8:28:08 PM PST by george76

Members of the ecoterrorism gang that torched buildings on Vail Mountain in 1998 will be sentenced in April, a federal judge ordered today.

At a hearing in U.S. District Court in Eugene, Ore., two key members of the gang formally pleaded guilty to federal arson charges, although they already had admitted their role in the multimillion-dollar fires.

They destroyed several mountaintop structures including the popular Two Elk Lodge, a restaurant that has been rebuilt.

During the 10-minute hearing, Chelsea Gerlach and Stanislas Meyerhoff, both 29, acknowledged their guilt when asked by Judge Ann Aiken.

Gerlach responded "yes," and Meyerhoff said, "Yes, I do."

Under plea deals, the former Oregon high-school sweethearts turned radical environmentalists -- she used the codename Country Girl and he was Country Boy -- agreed to have the Colorado charges consolidated with other charges pending against them and 11 other gang members.

The other charges stemmed from ecoterrorism strikes against government buildings, automobile dealerships, electricity lines and similar targets in the Northwest between 1996 and 2001.

Gerlach and Meyerhoff pleaded guilty in July to participating in the Northwest ecoterrorism attacks.

They were arrested in December 2005 in a nationwide sweep of ecoterrorism suspects.

In a related hearing, the judge scheduled Meyerhoff's sentencing for April 10 and Gerlach's for April 18.

Others in the gang who have pleaded guilty also will be sentenced in late April.
