11/14/2006 11:20:28 PM Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz has said that Saudi Arabia will go ahead with the construction of a security fence to seal off the border with Iraq to prevent the entry al-Qaeda fighters as well as drug dealers, weapon smugglers and potentially large numbers of Iraqi refugees.
The construction of the 900-km fence expected to begin next year and take up to six years is part of the larger electronic shield which the kingdom plans to build to secure its northern, western and southern borders. The $12bn project will use devices such as remote sensors and thermal cameras.
Abdulaziz said the war in Iraq has affected all its neighbors and that a border fence had become imperative for the security of the kingdom, the world's largest oil producer. The Saudis want to control their vast desert borders and seal off Iraq to ensure that the turmoil there does not spill over into the kingdom.

Interesting! When initially announced some weeks ago the lone reason cited was to prevent the flow of Saudis into Iraq where they were taking part in the insurgency. Very interesting this latest twist. Seems they are now attempting something akin to unfiring the bullet already shot.
