Hundreds of police officers showed up to keep the peace at what was supposed to be an anti-war rally Saturday afternoon. Police are now calling it a waste of resources after the protesters did not show.
It's a mix up that will cost tax payers tens of thousands of dollars. The anti-war demonstration at Washington Square was supposed to start at noon and the Chicago Police Department was ready. But the protesters were a no show, and police say it was a big waste of time and money.
They waited patiently on foot, on bike and in the streets. Hundreds of Chicago police officers were ready to make sure Saturday's anti-war demonstration stayed peaceful. Their job was easier than expected -- because no one showed up.

I'd like to see a newspaper editor have the balls to send a photographer to take pictures of the poorly attended protest and run it with the headline "Antiwar movement in peril as protest unable to draw a single participant".

What if you held a peace rally and nobody came?

***Its easy to stop. Somebody applied for a permit. That person should be held accountable. In fact a surety bond for large protests should keep this from happening again.***

Funny, police never come when we have Support the Troops rallies... Hmmm, does this indicate who the peaceful people are? ;)

"We never got a permit from the city," said John Beacham, Illinois Anti-War Coalition.
The police showed us what they say is the permit -- approved months ago -- with John Beacham's name right at the top.
Uh oh. Looks like Beacham's on the hook for this one. I hope the city takes the Illinois Anti-War Coalition to court to recoup the costs of the non-protest.

We should protest the non protest of the antiwar party by holding a non-counter-protest.

"We should protest the non protest of the antiwar party by holding a non-counter-protest."
Actually, my favorite DC fundraisers were always invitations to non-events .. just non-fundraisers, send a check and you don't have to go to the obligatory cocktail party and talk to people who're busy looking over your shoulder for someone more important to move on to!

True- snotty people attending snotty parties- On another note of similiar issues, Bill Clinton was set to celebrate his 60'th birthday, and extended the 'priveledge of sharing his birthday with the world' by inviting elite liberals to his party to the tune of $500,000- He had to lower the amount twice because peopel weren't signing up- they still didn't sign up even after the price dropped- Read more about it at newsbusters.org.
