The name Palestine comes from the name of the Philistines. Herodotus already uses the word Palestine to refer to the part of Syria closest to Egypt (so at least including the coastal area that the Philistines had inhabited). The name is from the Aramaic form of the name of the Philistines. Herodotus, of course, was writing in the fifth century, during the time of the Persian Empire. The name may not have been the normal term for the area before Hadrian but it wasn't invented Hadrian.

canaan...son of ham who was cursed...Is that why Moses told the children of Israel not to eat ham?

But I thought God loves everyone, even sinners. Even Christians love the sinner, but hate the sin. I wonder, is God getting ready to tell the Israelites to kill every man, woman, child, and animal in the Holy land again? Will modern Christians support such an order? Even if it includes killing Christians? If it was ok for God to issue such an order then, is it ok now? If it was ok to carry out such an order then, would it be ok now?

Apparently you haven't read the New Testament.
Christ issued a New Covenant to the people to 'love thy neighbor as thyself'.
Apparently, God changed his mind.
Which, being God, he can do.

Kinda reminds me of Joel C. Rosenberg's semi-fiction novel The Copper Scroll in which the heroes/heroines discover a vast underground tunnel system branching under Jerusalem from King Hezekiah's TunnelShhhh...I'm going to get that book. :) Did you read The Ezekiel Option?

Did you read The Ezekiel Option?
I certianly did!
And I'm a firm believer in the book's central theme [Russia & Iran--Gog & Magog--teaming up to "wipe out" Israel, which stands alone]

Thanks Waggs! I guess I missed this yesterday as I struggled with dialup instead of my usual broadband. I used to revel in my move up from 300 baud to 2400 baud dialup, but of course, everything was text then, apart from downloads. :')
