In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

Hamid Mir said al Qaeda had nukes and had not used them yet because they did not have permission from the spiritual advisors until recently.

What I got from it was that AQ did not have permission until they did the proper (in their minds) 3 warnings according to their religion. They're now in "compliance" and all that's left to discern is what when and where. We sort of know who (AQ) and why (sheer hatred of anyone who is not Muslim or strict enough Muslim).

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A US national of Iraqi origin has been arrested and charged with working as an agent for Saddam Hussein's former regime.

William Shaoul Benjamin, 64, of Los Angeles, was arrested last week on charges "he worked for the former Iraqi regime, which was controlled by Saddam Hussein, and failed to notify the United States Government," the Federal Bureau of Investigation and federal prosecutors said in a statement.

Benjamin allegedly collaborated with the former regime's intelligence service from 1993 to 2001 and was given the code name "9211," the statement said.

Benjamin pleaded not guilty on Monday and his trial is scheduled for November 7.

Under the indictment handed down by a grand jury, Benjamin is charged with conspiracy, making false statements and failing to register as an agent of a foreign government, the statement said."

This is an excellent analysis from the current edition of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists which is not the rather sensationalistic treatment that we generally get from NEIN and WND.

That is a must read for anyone on this thread or interested in the subject IMO. Prior to 9/11 every year I have been buying all better news magazines that run features on it. This was one issue that I picked up at the store in the last few weeks.

Graham Allison should not be ignored as far as I am concerned. Say what you want about Harvard, but there are some well read people there. His book Nuclear Terrorism: The Ultimate Preventable Catastrophe is also a must read and was highlighted on TM #29.

In what appears to be a new tactic for the insurgency, the ministry said the kidnap victims do not know their cars have been loaded with explosives when they are released.

The ministry issued a statement saying that first “a motorist is kidnapped with his car. They then booby trap the car without the driver knowing. Then the kidnapped driver is released and threatened to take a certain road.”

Virtual fence planned for uS-Canada border

Fantastic idea Cindy. Where are the politicians who are fed up with this anti-American organization? The savings to our country would be astronomical and resolve serious financial issues for our nation (such as financing border security and/or hiring personnel to weed out and prosecute and/or deport/imprison individuals using false social security identification). Why aren't our nation's intellectuals and patriots guiding our country out of this useless and wasteful "membership" that begets our country no respect whatsoever? Are we that desperate to know/verify what other nations say about us in public forum when it is obvious from the "they're either with us or against us" school of thought presently in play.

Ahmadinejad and Chavez have desecrated the building, that's for certain.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "OSLO, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Four men charged with firing shots at an Oslo synagogue at the weekend have also been accused of plotting to blow up the U.S. and Israeli embassies in Oslo, an attorney for one of the accused said on Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday, Oslo police said they had expanded their charges against the four men arrested on Tuesday to include a charge of terrorism, but they gave no further details and they declined to confirm or deny the attorney's remarks.
"The police say that they (the accused men) were talking about blowing up the embassies -- the American and Israeli embassies," attorney Vegard Aaloekken told Reuters.

He said his client, a 28-year-old man of Turkish background, denied involvement in both the synagogue shooting incident on Sunday and the alleged embassy plot."

Oslo: A 29-year-old Pakistani origin man with links to the criminal A-gang is among the four suspects arrested on Tuesday and charged with firing on Oslo`s synagogue last weekend, Aftenposten`s Norwegian reported.

The man was arrested in Germany this summer, suspected of participating in the planning of a terrorist attack on the soccer World Cup there. He was released quickly.

Last week he was arrested again, this time charged with threats against crime journalist Nina Johnsrud from the newspaper Dagsavisen.

Police suspect him of having something to do with shots having been fired against her house this summer, but he was released after 24 hours.

The man`s lawyer, John Christian Elden, denied any involvement in the synagogue shooting on the part of his client. In addition to the 29-year-old, who is of Pakistani extraction, Oslo police and the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) have arrested three others.

"The four have different ethnic backgrounds," said police inspector Iver Stensrud, head of the Oslo police`s section for organized crime. He did not rule out further arrests.

Charges in the case are vandalism, violation of the Weapons Act and reckless handling of a firearm. The four suspects were arrested in various spots in downtown Oslo and the city`s suburbs between 5 and 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
