Nine of eleven missing Egyptian students in custody

Immigration officials have now picked up all but two of the eleven Egyptian exchange students who came to the U-S for a summer course in Montana but never showed up for classes.

U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents tracked three of the students to Des Moines, Iowa, where they were arrested yesterday. Others were picked up earlier in New Jersey, Maryland, Chicago and Minnesota.

I wonder if they had gone to Montana, spent their month there and then happened not to take a plane back to Egypt would anyone ever have known that they overstayed their visa?

You know that crossed my mind too - then I got a chill - they've been doing that for years.. going to school - then disappearing. But THIS time they disappeared before.. makes me wonder why it was so important to "go elsewhere" NOW... I saw someone speculate that they were mules and/or messengers... I think that's EXACTLY what they're up to.

Police: Teens had White House radios 2nd-degree theft charges for 2 boys in Bettendorf

Two teenage boys were charged with second-degree theft after Bettendorf police found them in possession of radios and other equipment reported missing from a White House agency.

Matthew Bradshaw, 13, and Angel Luis Reyes III, 14, both of Bettendorf, were arrested July 30 when police discovered them with communications equipment that belonged to the White House Communications Agency.

The equipment, described by the Associated Press as three radios and more than a half-dozen "earpiece/wrist microphone combinations," apparently was reported missing less than a week before a July 17 visit to Bettendorf by Vice President Dick Cheney.

Officials said the radios couldn't be operated without a special code. No White House or Secret Service officials would comment, however, about how the radios disappeared in the first place.

Bettendorf police did not return multiple telephone calls from a reporter Friday.

Pat Hendrickson, juvenile court officer for Scott County, said the boys were apprehended without incident.

"I think they were just walking down the street and the officers saw them with what they knew to be expensive radios," Hendrickson said. "They then were found to be stolen."

Reyes' mother did not respond to a phone call requesting comment. Bradshaw's mother could not be reached.

Scott County court documents show Bradshaw told authorities that he found two of the radios and their earpiece/wrist accessories, according to the Associated Press. Another radio and seven earpiece/microphone attachments were found in Reyes' bedroom on the same day.

Both teens have previous juvenile arrests, including assault and fifth-degree theft for Reyes and assault and third-degree burglary for Bradshaw.

Second-degree theft, which applies when the stolen merchandise is valued at between $1,000 and $10,000, is punishable by up to five years in prison.

The woman who the kids were staying with in Dundalk "Jennifer Evans" said that her husband knew these guys from his village in Egypt and introduced them to her as 'family friends'.. She obviously did not take his last name. That could have told us alot.

You seem to suggest that "ignorance and Anti-American propaganda" (or at least Anti-American propaganda) are still the problems. However, to me it seems more likely that the problem is religion (or, if you prefer, a perversion of religion). As Andy McCarty says in his 9:44 AM post at The Corner-http://corner.nationalreview.com/ -we face "an existential threat catalyzed by religious conviction." It really is World War III (or IV, if you like), and we need to insist to our politicians that the War be fought on every front on which it appears: London airports, Dearborne Mosques, Hezbollah activities, Iranian nuclear programs, and all the rest.

I am so tired of the denial by the officials that this could have anything to do with terrorism. The two in Maryland were found at the apartment of the owner of a pizza place where terror-related arrests had taken place before. Something is up.

I'm not convinced. Several of the 11 turned themselves in when they heard that the authorities were looking for them. That's not the MO of a suicide bomber or terrorist on a missision.

Additionally, if one percent of the restaurant owners of places where some crime occured or was plotted were in fact criminals, our crime rate would be 100x higher than it is today. I wonder how many crimes have been plotted at places like 21 in NYC. Of course those are white collar crimes.

You may end up right but I'm skeptical at this point. If I was a young college age student leaving a repressive Islamic country to come to the US to study, I wouldnt be surprised if I took a few side trips before I showed up where I was supposed to be. Especially if I already had good comprehension of English and AMerican culure and didnt really need the course. Sounds like Summer Vacation.

And the fact that nothing is being leaked is very interesting. Obviously the authorities don't want to telegraph what they know to those out there who are in the know.
