ONE IN 3 AMERICANSSAY U.S. AIDED 9/11
NY Post ^ | August 3, 2006 | By THOMAS HARGROVE and GUIDO H. STEMPEL III

More than one-third of Americans suspect federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new poll. The survey also found that 16 percent of Americans speculate that secretly planted explosives, not burning passenger jets, were the real reason the massive Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.

The national Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.

Widespread resentment and alienation toward the national government appears to be fueling a growing acceptance of conspiracy theories about the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Suspicions that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job quickly have become nearly as popular as decades-old conspiracy theories that the federal government was responsible for President John Kennedy's assassination and that it has covered up proof of space aliens.

Seventy percent of people who give credence to these theories also say they've become angrier with the federal government than they used to be.

Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."

"One out of three sounds high, but that may very well be right," said Lee Hamilton, former vice chairman of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.

His congressionally appointed investigation concluded that federal officials bungled their attempts to prevent, but

Whatever liberal pollster took this poll, probably took it in downtown Berkeley and San Francisco...

Unfortunately these folks vote which is one of the weaknesses of a democracy. Not only should we have picture ID's to vote, there should be some kind of test imposed so stupid, ignorant, illogical people are barred from helping select the leadership. Oops. Maybe the ratrs would be in power forever then.

That's scary! What is wrong with this world? Where has rational thought gone? I guess being normal simply isn't cool.

The good news is that these ignoramuses (ignorami?) probably don't vote in large numbers.

Well, I could name a past POTUS and more than a few congress critters who did nothing to stop it.

Who was polled and what were the questions?

If they took the poll on campus, it's going to reflect a more liberal view. If the ask questions like: "In light of recent revelations of the government spying on it's own people and sending young men off to die for a pointless war - are you more or less happy with the government than you were in the halcyon days of the Clinton administration?" they're probably not going to get a fair response.

It IS people I know - people who started out as ardent Bush supporters.

Alex Jones is reaching more people every day. The recent multiple C-SPAN runs of the 9/11 panel discussion reached a lot of floaters out there.

This has been - is BEING - skilfully packaged and brilliantly marketed. Wishful thinking and dismissing those who believe it as DU gooks isn't going to make it go away.

And that in itself would be a very telling stat if they did ask that question. For those 1/3 of the population, what is your party affiliation? They would have to ask that question first because some may be clever enough to spot the trap.

"This can't be true"

Sure it can. Not only that, about half of Americans think we are in an economic recession, that the elections of 2000 and 2004 were rigged by the Republican's, that the "savings rate" of Americans is a negative number (it does not include 410K or IRA), and that Social Security does not need fixing. You have the "Lame Stream Media" to thank for this.

You don't want to know how many believe that UFO's are from outer space, or that Elvis is not dead.

exactly. this needs to be brought up for sure during the elections in 2006 and 2008,the lamestream media calls conservatives extreme because they believe terry schiavo should have been kept alive and that killing babies is murder, meanwhile the liberals think that we committed 9-11, pretend there is no threat from islamic fascism and think george bush and carbon dioxide are the biggest threats we face.

Sean Hannity had some college professor who espouses this bovine excrement on the radio the other day. Sean had to pound on him to get his questions answered, but when he did answer everything out of the moonbat's mouth made him sound flakier and flakier. I guess there are more idiots out there that believe this sort of thing than I thought.

Bottom line, half of the population is below average in intelligence and/or common sense. We call them "liberals."
