"I have lost faith in the US public to understand the battle we are currently fighting. I do not think the majority of the US public understands the enemy we are facing."
I concur with this. At 54 with some physical problems my time has past, at least for Army style actions. The discussions reminds me of the Flying Tigers in action against the Japs prior to WWII. They did indeed make a difference. Perhaps it is time for a volunteer corps again. But only if a nation state has the will to fight. Or should the fight be under a religious banner and hang the nation state?

Okay, so a while back, I did some research on the IDF and its rules of application for a story. The knowledge is a little rusty, but I believe this is accurate:
You can join the IDF if you are an Israeli citizen. You can maintain duel citizenship (US/Israeli) and can obtain Israeli citizenship most easily by converting to Judaism, specifically Orthodox or Conservative, aka right of return.
I do not believe there are any limitations on being in the IDF after being in USAF, but you would need to get Israeli citizenship and, if you're a big fan of Jesus, that might be a little trickier. I don't think you would have to renounce your religion to join the IDF if you were made a citizen some other way. There are non-Jewish citzens of Israel.
I would defend the land of my forefathers if not for a variety of medical issues that make me definitely unfit for combat.

I think there is coming a time when we will all have to make a choice, whether individual western governments can make that choice or not, whether they decide they can buck political "realities", WE each INDIVIDUALY have to make a choice on which side we fight.
I have personally made that choice, I have taken an Oath and it goes beyond my nations boarders. My Oath goes and always has gone to the People, those are the ones I serve, under the grace of God.
Whatever nation, group or Brotherhood defends those beliefs that I have sworn to, that I hold dear, I will fight with.

"[IDF] are the best, even better than us USAF guys. I don't know that we could help out much, truth be told."
Thanks for posting that, church16; very encouraging. Thank you so much for your service - God bless.

Since you and some others have expressed interest in doing what you can to help out, then please check out this link:

Apparently, it's a way for non-Israelis and non-Jews to help out in Israel by volunteering to work for several weeks in places like hospitals or army bases (doing the routine supply & maintenane work that frees up soldiers for other duties).
I also came across this website that has a lot of links to other volunteer programs in Israel. Spend a little time and check them out; maybe you'll find something suitable.

Sorry I missed you. Thanks for the service. Let me know if you get that Old Timers Brigade started. I'm to old for the Army now, so you have to let me in the OTB!

I am not very physical and too fat to run around like a young man anymore, but I would be willing to assist with planning/tactics/strategy area. For example, returning those captured missiles from 20k feet+ airdrop might be clever way to get a certain individual(s) that are hiding out in a certain embassy could solve several issues, since a certain group will need to explain why their missile ended up blowing up the place.... They will blame Irsael anyhow, but have good excuse that we were not involved! Maybe it was an assassination by a rival in the their group?

We come under the enlistment category of TFO, the thing we need to do is throw the aholes out. Damn, youth is wasted on the young.

I appreciate your opinion. I wasn't going to tell you what to do, but I think I would feel better if I did.
I would stay home and fight terrorist for my own family. I would help defend Israel, if they needed my help. But I don't think they need my help. They need my support and I give them that.
I am just more willing to be here for my own family. They may need me one day.
But that is me and you have the free will to do as you wish.
One more piece of advice that I got from my Drill Sergent (and he got it from General Patton): No dumb bastard ever won a war by fighting and dieing for his country. You fight and make the other dumb bastard die for his.
And I will add, I served but never had to do battle. Trained for it but never had the chance. The folks I talked to all say that they fought for their brothers. Their brother is the man in the foxhole. No matter what battlefield you will be on, you will always fight for your brother.
God Bless and good luck.
And remember this:a warrior lives to fight another day.

Call Bill Clinton ... I remember him saying he would get in the trenches with the Israelis when the going gets tough.

Uh, soldiers, et.al. here in the USA take an oath to the USA, not a foreign country.
So I don't think you'll get many volunteers. That doesn't mean they're not "putting their money where their mouths are", that means they are loyal to the USA.
In case you haven't noticed, we are also fighting terrorism, on more than one front (and many fronts that are not in the news).
To: MaDuce
Call Clinton up. I think a I know of a outpost that needs manned.

One of my old SF buddies went to Israel in the early 80's and offered his extensive SF experience.
He was thanked kindly, escorted to the airport, and placed on the first plane back to New York.
I think they've got the situation well in hand.
The support they need now is political.
Write your Congressmen and let them you you vote and will hold them accountable for any failure to fully support ANYONE who actively engages terrorists.

And lose American citizenship for fighting in another nation's uniform?
No way.
