Tourists Streaming into Syria from Lebanon
Arutz Sheva - Israel News Network ^ | 7/13/06

(IsraelNN.com) Thousands of tourists and foreign employees are fleeing to Syria as Israel tightens a sea and land blockade on Lebanon. Syrian officials said they have relaxed border inspections in order to speed up procedures.

Israel hit the Beirut international airport for at least the second time Thursday night in an effort to close off all air traffic. Government officials said they have substantiated information that Hizbullah terrorists are trying to take the two abducted IDF soldiers to Iran.

What a warm welcome European and American Jews will receive in Syria! Perhaps that will be an eye-opener for the Western, Liberal, Moral Equivalency schmucks caught-up in this chaos.

"Tourists? Who vacations in Lebanon?"

Lebanon is THE place to go on the MED for the Arabs who like to party. Much drinking and debauchery goes on there. Big time.

There are so many places in the Middle East I would love to see but somehow I think that will never happen in my lifetime. Its a shame! You know the money they can make off of tourism if these idiots would stop attacking Israel and Western countries?

I just hope Isreal is very careful with the airports, and it appears they have been so far. If they hit a passenger jet the world will come down on them like a ton of bricks and the US will have a hard time defending them.

For whatever reason, a plane going down (or getting blown up) is viewed far differently than a building getting bombed (with collateral civilian damage) or two buses crashing. 100 people may get killed in all three instances, but the plane crash will get disproportionate coverage.

You are correct. I don't put it past the terrorists to take out an airplane for just that reason.

You all might find this damn funny, but my sorry ass is marooned in Beirut, where I have been working for the IMF. If anybody has any helpful suggestions on how I can get out of this war zone, I would be most grateful. Right now, the road to Syria is the only way out of Lebanon for anyone, including U.S. citizens, and the Israelis are bombing that road. I am NOT happy with the Israelis right now. I understand their concerns about their kidnapped soldiers but bombing the Beirut Airport was not going to help them in any way.

What an awful position to be in. Would you like to be put on the FR prayer list? Sounds like you could use the help.

Good luck, sincerely! I figured people going to Syria are trying to get out while Damascus airport is still open.

I have been in contact with the State Department. They suggest I "hunker down" until further notice. Thanks a lot! I have internet phone service to the U.S., I'm safe in a Beirut hotel for now, but I was supposed to return home tomorrow and now I'm stranded until only God knows when. Perhaps I can sign on as a stringer for Fox News?

CNN said they had no information on the evacuation, and that the Iwo Jima Task Force was in the Red Sea heading to the Persian Gulf.

Normally there would be a Carrier Group in the Med, but they are all around N Korea.
