The world's falling apart so I go to the TV for some better news. Well Larry is talking to Mike Wallace and Dan "the documents were false but the story is true" Rather like these two are the story?? Next on Nancy Grace, Guilty,Guilty,Guilty Obermann is on with Barbara Boxer talking about getting out of Iraq (of course no opposing POV)and badmouthing Bill OReilly, OReilly is talking about Lance Armstrong and blood doping. How sad. I run the news station dial and the closest I come to news is on Obermann and its a rant. A typical night of the irresponsibile press.

We did Iraq the nice way...very few civilian fatalities from our operations...very little collateral damage.

We did Germany and Japan the other way, and neither nation has ever acted up again.

...and there's no rule that says that a U.S. President in his final years in Office must be nice.

We have options. We can dial in whatever level of violence is deemed best. The rest of the world does not have such options.

With Iran reps in North Korea for the launching the missles last week and remembering how our President included NK as the axis of evil (knowing he has the info we don't), I don't think it is taking our eyes off the ball-it is the whole ball.
Iran's big card in the game is OIL. If Iran attacks the oil pipelines of Iraq, and offshore oil terminals like they did before 1970s the world would be in a big hurt for oil in days. Iran also now has the ability to hold the strait of Hormuz hostage and subs with missiles to sink oil tankers. If this happens the cost of oil will skyrocket and the worlds (free, democratic) economies sink overnight with the oil tankers.

The only way to stop this is for the US, UK and Israel to take out Iran's ability to strike by wiping out all of Iran's and North Korea's Long range missiles.

I agree...the timing is premature for them...but once it gets going, and it is getting hotter in the Mid East, who knows what may happen.

I do not believe N. KOrea will make a move without the PRC's blessings.

Perhaps something else is happening in the Mid East. Perhaps, with us strategically positioned on both sides of Iran, and between ourselves and Israel, also positioned on both sides of Syria...perhaps we have been waiting for Syria and Iran to egg Hezbollah on so that Israel can respond strong enough to draw both of them (Iran and Syria) into a fly trap.

I totally disagree. We are nearing the end of the poker game and we will either fold or go "all in". When it comes ot supporting Israel, Dubya will support Israel and tell our Arab friends to mind their own business and stay out of the way. The poop is hitting the fan and diplomacy be damned.

You can disagree all you want, but the Arabs control most of the world's supply of exportable oil. Dubya will be limited on what he can do by that reality. We don't want a replay of 1973. Our involvment would also have a major impact on our efforts in Iraq.

Israel can defend itself.

I agree. On a scale of 1-100, the level of force and violence we've used in Iraq and the WOT in general has been around a 5. We need to dial it up to at least a 50.

Egypt is on the U.S.A. gravy train. Who would pick up the ladle if we drop it? Russia? Iran?

Egypt might say some words but they got whipped (badly) by Israel twice before.

So do you think they would unhook from the U.S.A. gravy train, risk losing the income from the Suez for two years, risk having their airport cratered (lose of tourism), risk a destabilizing internal situation, risk loosing Gaza (again), risk loosing a large part of their air force (again), etc, etc

Remember, before you answer, there is NO USSR any more.
