:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Bin Laden Says Will Take Fight to America
(Full Story)

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden said his group reserved the right to fight the United States on its land and warned Washington and the world community against sending forces to Somalia, according to an Internet audio tape.

"We will fight its (U.S.) soldiers on the land of Somalia ... and we reserve the right to punish it on its land and anywhere possible," said the speaker, who sounded like the Saudi-born militant.

"We warn all of the countries in the world not to respond to America by sending international troops to Somalia," he said of the African nation where Islamists' power is rising.

Ahmadinejad Promises Muslims will 'rejoice' soon
Jerusalem Post ^ | 7/18/06

Posted on 07/18/2006 12:52:03 PM PDT by areafiftyone

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday promised a "rejoicing" for Muslims in the Middle East "soon," the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Speaking to university officials in the town of Mashhad, Ahmadinejad said the "volcano of rage" at the "arrogant powers" was "on the verge of eruption."

Referring to escalating violence in Lebanon and northern Israel, he was quoted as saying, "The Zionists themselves have realized that they have launched a risky move and are aware that the flame of the fury of the regional states will set them ablaze."

"Police pinpoint explosive mix in Mumbai bombings"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "MUMBAI - Indian police on Monday said a rare mixture of explosives was used in the Mumbai train bombings but refused to pin blame on any group for the blasts that killed 182 people and injured nearly 900.
Inquiry head K.P. Raghuvanshi told reporters that analysis of small amounts of bomb debris revealed they were made up of powerful RDX explosive, ammonium nitrate and fuel oil."

"U.S. ANNOUNCES GUILTY PLEA IN LARGE AND SOPHISTICATED IDENTITY THEFT RING"

PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: "MICHAEL J. GARCIA, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that LANRE ELEKEDE, a/k/a "getting2k@yahoo.com," a/k/a "getting2k@hotmail.com," pleaded guilty in Manhattan Federal Court earlier today to his participation in a sophisticated scheme to steal the identities of hundreds of people, and then use those stolen identities to commit fraud. ELEKEDE is the lead defendant in the prosecution of a large identity theft ring which was engaged in, among other things, stealing individual victims' personal identity information, sharing that information over the Internet with other members of the identity ring, and using the information to commit various forms of fraud. By pleading guilty, ELEKEDE avoided trial which had been scheduled to commence on July 17, 2006 before United States District Judge RICHARD M. BERMAN.

According to the Complaint, the evidence against ELEKEDE, included a large number of e-mails between members of a sophisticated identity theft ring. Among other things, members of the ring exchanged numerous credit card numbers, expiration dates and three-digit codes, which they typically referred to as "ike" or "ikes." The e-mails also included the personal identity
information of a large number of individual victims (which they typically referred to as "infos"), including victims' names, addresses, telephone numbers, social security numbers (referred to as "sola sola"), and mother's maiden names ("mama name"). As detailed in the Complaint, ELEKEDE and his co-conspirators then used the stolen credit card numbers and identity information to commit various forms of fraud, including using the credit card numbers to make purchases over the Internet.

As disclosed today in Court during ELEKEDE's guilty plea hearing, the investigation revealed that a common thread linking a number of the victims whose identities were compromised was that they had engaged in sports-related gambling over the Internet with a Costa Rica-based web site known as BetOnSports.com. A number of the victims had submitted forms to BetOnSports detailing, among other things, their names, addresses, telephone numbers, social security numbers, mother's maiden names and credit card numbers.

ELEKEDE, 32, is a native of Nigeria and, until his arrest, lived in Miami, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois. ELEKEDE pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and faces a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment. ELEKEDE is scheduled to be sentenced on October 18, 2006, at 2:00 p.m.

ELEKEDE’s co-defendant, ABIODUN WAHAB, previously pleaded guilty on May 19, 2006."

Treasury Adds Two Entities to the List of Iranian
Weapons Proliferators

The Department of the Treasury today designated two additional Iranian companies, Sanam Industrial Group and Ya Mahdi Industries Group, for their ties to missile proliferation.

"As long as Iran's nuclear ambitions continue to threaten the international community, the United States will use its authorities to target Iran's efforts to sell and acquire items used to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles capable of carrying them," said Stuart Levey, Treasury's Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI). "We have now taken steps to financially isolate thirteen entities tied to Iranian proliferation, and will continue to act aggressively against this grave threat."

This action was taken pursuant to Executive Order 13382, an authority aimed at financially isolating proliferators of weapons of mass destruction, their supporters, and those contributing to the development of missiles capable of delivering WMD. Designations under E.O. 13382, which is administered and enforced by the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), prohibits all transactions between the designees and any U.S. person and freezes any assets the designees may have under U.S. jurisdiction.

Sanam Industrial Group and Ya Mahdi Industries Group are being designated by OFAC because they are owned or controlled by, or act or purport to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, the Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO), which the United States Government designated in the annex to E.O. Order 13382. AIO is a subsidiary of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, and manages and coordinates Iran's missile program and oversees all of Iran's missile industries.

The Sanam Industrial Group, a subordinate to the AIO, has purchased millions of dollars worth of equipment on behalf of the AIO from entities associated with missile proliferation.

Ya Mahdi Industries Group is also subordinate to the AIO and has been involved in international purchases of missile-related technology and goods on behalf of the AIO.

Background on E.O. 13382

Today's action builds on President Bush's issuance of E.O. 13382 on June 29, 2005. Recognizing the need for additional tools to combat the proliferation of WMD, the President signed the E.O. authorizing the imposition of strong financial sanctions against not only WMD proliferators, but also entities and individuals providing support or services to them.

In the annex to E.O. 13382, the President identified eight entities operating in North Korea, Iran, and Syria for their support of WMD proliferation. E.O. 13382 authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and other relevant agencies, to designate additional entities and individuals providing support or services to the entities identified in the annex to the Order.

In addition to the eight entities named in the annex of E.O. 13382 and the two named today, the Treasury Department has designated sixteen entities and one individual as proliferators of WMD, specifically:

Eight North Korean entities on October 21, 2005;
Two Iranian entities on January 4, 2006;
One Swiss individual and one Swiss entity tied to North Korean proliferation activity on March 30, 2006; and
Four Chinese entities and one U.S. entity tied to Iranian proliferation activity on June 13, 2006.
The designations announced today are part of the ongoing interagency effort by the United States Government to combat WMD trafficking by blocking the property of entities and individuals that engage in proliferation activities and their support networks.

And the Jews keep coming home...
Since conflict started last week, 174 immigrants arrived in Israel. About 840 more anticipated in next two weeks:

As rockets continue to land in the north, hundreds of immigrants are landing in Israel, some of them asking specifically to live in northern Israel. In a heartwarming display of faith and Zionism, over a thousand immigrants, from a plethora of different countries, have arrived since the beginning of July, 174 of them since the beginning of the current conflict.
Ze'ev Boim, minister of immigrant absorption, praised this trend, saying "it is very important that immigrants are arriving now and it has a positive impact on Israeli morale." The statistics are exciting and reminiscent of the first Gulf War when immigrants, upon their arrival, received absorption benefits and a gas mask.

Later this week, 220 more immigrants from Canada and the United States are scheduled to arrive via the Nefesh B'Nefesh immigration and absorption assistance agency. Even more impressively, next Tuesday, 620 immigrants will arrive from France. The immigrants will be received with a festive ceremony in Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport, in which Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Boim, and the head of the Jewish Agency, Ze'ev Bilsky will take part, among others.

The short and sweet of it
White House: Return of situation on northern border to how it was is not acceptable:

White House Spokesman Tony Snow said that a ceasefire that would return the situation (on the northern border) to how it was is not acceptable to the United States.

Note to Hassan Nasrallah: What this means, in the simplest terms, is that Israel will not be running out of jet fuel, 2,000lb bombs or diplomatic support for the foreseeable future. Govern yourself accordingly.

We're a scary bunch of folks when we all get on the same page
Analysis: A deepening consensus - David Horovitz, THE JERUSALEM POST:

The rare degree of national unanimity behind this thinking was reflected in the respectful reception afforded Olmert in the Knesset on Monday night. For the first time in years, a prime minister was able to deliver a lengthy, nuanced address unhindered by heckling or other interruption. With Israel facing what he called "a moment of national truth," a man elected with an underwhelming majority spoke for a wider consensus than he ever has before.
Each passing day of the Israeli offensive against Hizbullah serves to emphasize the striking contrast between the attitude of this government and that of its immediate predecessors to Hizbullah's ever-bolder muscle flexing. The last time Sheikh Nasrallah tried his hand at a prisoner exchange deal, in 2004, Israel freed hundreds of prisoners for the captured "businessman" Elhanan Tennenbaum and the bodies of three soldiers. So it is easy to understand why he might have imagined a similarly glorious scenario, from his point of view, unfolding as he held up his two captured IDF soldiers as bargaining chips after last Wednesday's attack.

However improbably, with peacenik Amir Peretz at the Defense Ministry, a rather different Israeli response ensued: Not merely a readiness to take a calculated heavy risk on the lives of those two soldiers by hitting back at Hizbullah, but a readiness, too, to strike into residential areas of Lebanon where Hizbullah has secreted missiles. These were targets Nasrallah may have believed Israel would never have the stomach to strike, or the international tacit approval.

The Israel Air Force attacked four trucks carrying weapons from Syria to Lebanon as it was travelling through the valley close to the border between the two countries. A tunnel and a bunker east of Tyre in which Hizbullah operatives were staying were bombed as well.
The Air Force also attacked two Katyusha launchers as well as a bridge and an automobile next to the site.

Although we are careful not to get too close to the border and not expecting Syrian action, I keep a careful eye on the warning systems, that will tell me if a missile is launched. Sure, I reply. Just this morning I dropped two tons of explosives on Lebanon.

"Israel is going to far"
More whining from the formerly bellicose Iranians:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that, "The Zionist government went too far and is interested in occupying Lebanon after it failed to pressure Iran on the nuclear issue.
In point of fact, Israel has not gone far enough...

IDF needs another week to alleviate Hizbullah threat:

Forty to fifty percent of Hizbullah's military capability has been destroyed in the six days of the IDF counter-attack following last Wednesday's Hizbullah raid in northern Israel, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
The IDF, it is understood, believes it needs another week or so minimum to achieve its military goals in terms of alleviating Hizbullah's capacity to threaten Israel.

The IDF further believes, it is understood, that it will be given at least that long to continue its actions, in light of the G8 nations' essential support for Israel and those nations' branding Hizbullah and Hamas as being responsible for the current escalation.

Here's your sign...
...your sign that IDF efforts against Hizballah are beginning to have a significant impact.

Iran to Hizbullah: Curb attacks on Israel:

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was sent to Damascus to urge Hizbullah to curb rocket attacks against Israel and to release two Israel Defense Forces soldiers captured a week ago in order to avoid further escalations, a London-based Arabic daily reported.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat reported that a European country warned Iran that Israel is ready for a confrontation with Syria, which recently signed a defense alliance with Iran.

The alliance stipulates that Iran would send arms and troops to back Syria should Damascus be attacked.

Iran was also warned that Israel is determined to crush Hizbullah's infrastructure and liquidate its leadership.

The report, which was based on leaks by an Iranian presidential aide, said Iran is worried by criticism waged against Hizbullah by an array of Lebanese politicians like Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, Druze leader Walid Jumblatt and Saad Hariri, son of slain former prime minister Rafik Hariri.

The following is likely related to the preceeding, as cause is to effect.

More than 100 targets in Lebanon struck overnight:

A senior IAF officer said that some 100 targets were struck in Lebanon during the night, including 20 rocket launch sites and launching cells, and 30 infrastructure targets, including arms depots.
The official said that there was no confirmation of reports that Hizbullah has tried to fly a drone or a similar craft into Israel, but stated that the organization was capable of doing so. He added that a shoulder missile was apparently fired at an IDF helicopter operating in Lebanon two days ago, but that the chopper escaped unharmed. The incident is currently under investigation.

IDF sources said that, among the targets attacked Monday night, were several main arteries across Lebanon, an arms depot – including trucks used for weapons' transfer north-east of Beirut, an arms depot in southern Lebanon near a rocket launch site, a truck containing arms in western Lebanon, rocket launch sites and infrastructures serving as Katyusha launchers.

From the sea, the IDF attacked a radar belonging to Lebanese armed forces in Anchuria, in southern Lebanon. Additionally, continuous artillery fire was aimed at the border. In total, the IAF has executed more than 1,600 sorties since the onset of the confrontation in Lebanon, and attacked more than 130 rocket launch sites.

Beyond the basic ideological goal of HAMAS and Hizballah to remove us from the world, exhausting us and shedding our blood on the way, they always perceive us with a different type of logic. They perceive all expressions of our democracy, freedom of expression and criticism, our bleeding heart liberalism and our unfortunate mishaps as well, as weakness, and as an invitation for increased aggression.
Of course, Damascus and Tehran bear responsibility for being the dispatchers, and their time will come. They perceive a general weakness on the part of the West. Iran deduces this from the dilly-dallying in responding to North Korea's missiles and in the West's limp behavior in the context of the Iranian nuclear issue. Syria feels liberated from the evaporation of the committee of inquiry into the Al-Hariri murder, and the dissipation of Western pressure.

We should congratulate the political leadership and the IDF for the moves to crush Hizballah, as hard as possible within the given time frame, which further expands with each katyusha that falls on Haifa, Zefat and Tiberias, as well as on Majd al-Kurum, Tuba, and other minority communities. (Well, Arab fellow citizens -- what have you to say beyond your leaders' support for the "legitimate struggle against Israeli occupation?").

There is no doubt that the time has come to establish new rules of the game.

However, we must bear in mind that within the booby-trapped middle live the sane 70% of Lebanon's population (Christians, Sunnis and Druze) and Lebanese MPs who were elected in a wave of anger surrounding the murder of Rafiq al-Hariri, and the waves of hatred of the Syrians and the expulsion of their army from Lebanon. A 70% who are still unable and/or unwilling and/or afraid to complete the job. They still have a president (Lahud) and Speaker of the Parliament (Birri), and Hizballah is armed and threatening, Syrian agents aside from the those in charge of the assassinations and car bombs.

Take Walid Junblatt, the Druze leader who hasn't given us any reason to rejoice, for example. The Syrians knocked off his father and he fearfully cooperated with them up until the Al-Hariri murder, when he came out publicly against the Syrians. How much longer can he maintain his bravado against the Syrians if Western support has evaporated? He may be brave, but he is not suicidal.

We must therefore limit, to the greatest possible extent, damage to the areas and interests of the sane groups. However, they must understand that we don't have unlimited time to wait until the Lebanese army deploys at our common border. Certainly not while the commander of the Lebanese army, General Sulayman, declares foolhardily that the Lebanese army will protect Lebanon from Israeli aggression. And Mr Chirac and the West must understand that what the sane people in Lebanon need is not the condemnation of Israel, but support for the completion of Lebanese independence and the realization of the army's sovereignty, not Hizballah's, along the border. And it seems that at the end of the "democratization" process there will be no way to avoid removing the Alawite minority as rulers of Syria.

More than 313 active members of the Union of the Islamic Associations of Independent University Students from across the country have in a letter to the secretary-general of the Lebanese Hizballah announced readiness to take part in the war against the cruel and terrorist Zionist regime.
The Union of Islamic Associations of Independent University Students says in the letter: Today, at this sensitive juncture of the life of the Islamic ummah, the first line of Jihad for God and the center of Islamic awareness and struggle against oppression and conspiracies of the world of arrogance and capitalism, the dear Palestine and Lebanon, are proud.

The letter adds: In fact, the usurper, blood thirsty and criminal Zionist regime is the full portrayal of those who seek to drag humanity into slavery and kill spirituality, justice and freedom for the sake of the material world, lust, and their own greed for power. And in return, the innocent nations of Palestine and Lebanon are the front runners of the Islamic world against so much greed. (passage omitted: the letter calls Israel a cancerous tumor, condemns the killings of innocent people, and claims victory of the Muslims in the end)

Special Terrorism Summary 07/18/06 #1
Israel At War

This is not a blow by blow, but a summary of the information I’ve seen and heard. The situation is still critical and IMHO Israel still has the green light to continue for an indefinite period.

Iran threatens to attack US interests world-wide Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday promised a "rejoicing" for Muslims in the Middle East "soon," the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Overnight Action

RUMINT The pro-Israel Lebanese Foundation for Peace published an unsubstantiated report Tuesday stating that Hizbullah terrorists smuggled two kidnapped IDF soldiers from southern Lebanon to the Iranian embassy in Beirut. If true, this would spell greater trouble for Iran in defending itself and its nuclear program.

No other significant changes. Attacks and counter attacks continue at the tempo of the past couple of days. Haifa continues to remain in Hezbollah’s sights while shorter range rocket attacks expand into the southern Golan Heights area. It is estimated that Hizbollah has fired about 1500 rockets the past five days. Israel estimates it has reduced Hizbollah’s capabilities by about 40%

Most diplomats from major countries indicate that it is too soon to begin negotiations for any peace settlements. Israel has offered a cease fire if their soldiers are returned and Hizbollah withdraws from Lebanon.

Foreign evacuations are currently underway as lift assets arrive. However, this is a huge task with 25,000 Americans ALONE to be taken out if necessary. So far Israel hasn’t stopped the effort and Hezbollah has kept their hands off foreigners. Syria has refused to allow American refugees to cross its border.

Ground Assault Preparations

Three reserves battalions – infantry, engineers, and artillery – will be drafted in upcoming days and will replace regular forces in Judea and Samaria. This is in order to allow the regular forces to tale part in IDF operations in the north. Reportedly a one half kilometer wide zone along the Lebanese border has been leveled by Israeli in preparation for the ground assault.

A LONG-RANGE Iranian-made missile capable of reaching Israel's leading city, Tel Aviv, launched skyward from a bombed truck convoy east of Beirut before crashing to earth, Lebanese military officials have confirmed. After initially suspecting the spiralling fireball was a downed Israeli warplane, officials now believe it was evidence of the most serious threat to Israel's main cities yet to emerge in the week-long conflict.

Arab world fed up with Hizbullah

With the exception of the Palestinians, the Arab world appears to be united in blaming Iran and Syria for the fighting in Lebanon. The anti-Hizbullah coalition, which appears to be growing with every Israeli missile that drops on the heads of Hizbullah leaders and headquarters, is spearheaded by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. These three countries, together with many Arab commentators and political analysts, are convinced that the leaders of Teheran and Damascus are using Hizbullah to divert attention from Iran's nuclear program and Syria's involvement in the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.

enied bail
Canadian Press via Sun Media ^ | 2006-07-18

BRAMPTON, Ont. (CP) - Another of the 17 terror suspects arrested on June 2 has been denied bail.

Nineteen-year-old Saad Khalid is charged with knowingly participating in a terrorist group, receiving training for activity in a terrorist group, and for having the intent to build and detonate an explosive device.

Due to a sweeping publication ban, evidence brought before the court at the bail hearing cannot be reported.

Khalid's lawyer, Paul Burstein, said outside court that his client and his family are extremely disappointed by the news.

Justice of the peace Hilda Weiss' decision to deny Khalid bail comes days after one of his alleged co-conspirators, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released on bail.

The youth was released last Friday under what his lawyer called "very strict conditions."

The young man, who was 17 at the time of the alleged offences, is accused of participating in a terrorist group and receiving training for terrorist purposes.

Twelve men and five youth were arrested and charged with participating in a terrorist group and other terrorist-related offences.

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Tue Jul 18 2006 13:49:07 GMT-0700.

EAST TIMOR

July 18, 2006

This Travel Warning is being updated to inform Americans that the Department of State has authorized lifting the ordered departure status of the U.S. Embassy in Dili and the Embassy has returned to normal operations, but security concerns in East Timor remain. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on May 30, 2006.

Although the Department of State has authorized lifting the ordered departure status of the U.S. Embassy in Dili and the Embassy has returned to normal operations, the Department remains concerned by the threat to the personal safety of Americans in East Timor due to the potential for continued communal and politically motivated violence. Demonstrations in response to the dismissal of 595 members of the armed forces escalated into rioting and violence in April and again throughout May and June.

The Department of State advises U.S. citizens traveling or residing in East Timor to be alert to the potential for violence, to avoid those areas where disturbances have occurred, and to avoid demonstrations and large gatherings. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.

Americans in East Timor should immediately register at the Embassy and obtain all recent messages sent to the American community in East Timor. The U.S. Embassy in Dili can be reached at 670 332-4684 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time or the duty officer outside business hours at 670-723-1323. The US Embassy is located on Avenida de Portugal in the Pantai Kelapa area. U.S. citizens living in or traveling to East Timor can also register through the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Cautions, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Travelers should also consult the Department of State's latest Consular information Sheet for East Timor. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
