IRAN: D'ALEMA, SANCTIONS WOULD ESPECIALLY DAMAGE ITALY

(AGI) - Rome, May 26 - Economic sanctions under discussion against Iran would damage Italy in particular, which is an important trade partner of Iran. This was the statement by Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema, in an interview with the Israeli newspaper "Maariv". The head of the foreign office warned of the risks of an escalation in the international clash over the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic. "not only us, but also Americans believe that the possibility of a military attack on Iran is a disastrous possibility", explained D'Alema, "when we find ourselves faced with such a choice, we must evaluate costs and benefits for all parties involved". The foreign ministry spokesperson, Pasquale Terracciano, explained in a briefing that D'Alema feels that it is important for Italy to be involved in negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. "In the un-hoped-for possibility in which an agreement cannot be found, Italy will pay a price and it is only fair that it has a say in the matter and not only because others have raised their voices". Terracciano spoke about the fact that on Tuesday Italy participated in London with the political director Giulio Terzi in a meeting as part of the G8 on Iran's nuclear program. "The countries of the G8 must be joined together in dealing with this delicate international issue", insisted the foreign office spokesperson, especially because Italy believes it has " a particular format adapted to favouring the treatment of sensitive political issues". And no, Italy didn't suddenly get that way after Berlusconi's election loss. It's been that way for a long time.

The problem is there are no good choices. Any way you look it, Europe is going to be hurt. Iran's nuclear program has to be stopped. The real question is the extent of the price: it can be low or much higher if every one waits.

We need to allow Iran to nuclearize the middle-east, giving Nuke bomb tech to Syria and Al Qaida, causing Saudi Arabia to match in defense, and continue their wanton destruction of Iraq democracy so that Italy can get Pistachio nuts and carpets.

"Italy believes it has ' a particular format adapted to favouring the treatment of sensitive political issues'. "

I seem to remember that at one time Czechoslovakia was described as a "sensitive political issue." The European format "adapted to favouring the treatment" of the Czechoslovakia issue didn't work out too well, did it?

"Italy will pay a price and it is only fair that it has a say in the matter "

Italy has to make a choice - do they want to become dhimmies or do they want to be free? If you want to be free you have to fight for it (and pay the price); otherwise, let them collaborate with Iran, the way they did with Hitler, and pay those consequences. Life is tough.

"Italy has to make a choice"

...not if Italian identity people (as opposed to American identity) can successfully hide Italy's anti-American sentiment longer. The post above was taken out of Extended News.

Italy is at least as anti-American as France is.

Massimo D'Alema is Italy's equivalent of Kim Il Sung.

Born to a Communist leader, bred to be a Communist leader.

It seems to me that the population of every country in the world has a split.

About 40% socialist/communist, about 40% capitalist/democratic (not Democrat), about 20% who float.

The socialist/communist part have grown in the last hundred years, basically in response to the increase in Governments taxation, and the following increase in the numbers on the Governments payroll, either thorough Government jobs, or benefits.

The only way to solve this in the long term is to reduce taxation, privatise state owned businesses, reduce government expenditure, and clamp down on benefits.
