U.S. Ambassador to Armenia fired for referring to Armenian genocide Dhimmitude at State. A press release from the Armenian National Committee of America (thanks to Andrew Bostom):
REP. MARKEY LEADS CONGRESSIONAL OPPOSITION TO WHITE HOUSE RECALL OF U.S. AMBASSADOR TO ARMENIA ANCA Calls for Senate Foreign Relations Committee to Hold Hearing on Firing
WASHINGTON, DC Over 60 Members of Congress, led by Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA), sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking for clarification on reports of U.S. Ambassador to Armenian John Evans recall over his forthright remarks about the Armenian Genocide, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
The letter was sent on the eve of a May 23rd White House announcement nominating Richard Hoagland to serve as the new Ambassador to Armenia. Amb. Evans will be relieved of his duties as soon as Hoagland's Senate confirmation process is completed.
The Administration has recalled Amb. Evans over his February 2005 statements at Armenian American community functions, during which he properly characterized the Armenian Genocide as genocide. Following his statements, Amb. Evans was apparently forced to issue a statement clarifying that his references to the Armenian Genocide were his personal views and did not represent a change in US policy. He subsequently issued a correction to this statement, replacing a reference to the genocide with the word tragedy. The American Foreign Service Association, which had planned to honor Amb. Evans with the Christian A. Herter Award, recognizing creative thinking and intellectual courage within the Foreign Service, reportedly rescinded the award following pressure from the State Department a few days before Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan traveled to Washington, DC to meet with President Bush.
Ambassador Evans has been recalled for doing nothing more than honoring the forsaken pledge of his president, said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. We want to thank Congressman Markey and his 59 colleagues for calling for a clarification and rejecting the Armenian Genocide gag-rule imposed by the Turkish government and, sadly, enforced by our own State Department.
"Armenian Americans truly regret that the Administration lacks the courage to speak honestly about its reasons for firing Ambassador Evans," added Hamparian. "We call upon the Senate Foreign Relations Committee - the Congressional panel constitutionally charged with oversight of diplomatic appointments - to hold a hearing thoroughly examining the reasons behind this firing, the role of the Turkish government, and the broader implications for the future of the Foreign Service that a senior American diplomat's career has been ended simply for speaking the truth."
Come now, the Turks are our "allies". Can't risk offending them.
I know this will piss off the Armenian propagandists, but whether one characterizes the killings and forced exile as genocide or tragedy or some other term is a matter of preference and historical debate.
He didn't show up at the funeral for the judge whacked by a wild-eyed islamist, because he, and everyone else in Turkey, know damned well it was his party that promoted the climate that led to the judge's whacking.
No. What happened to the Armenians in the closing days of the Ottoman Empire wasn't genocide! It was just a...uh... crime wave, yeah, that happened to target one religious and ethnic group with the intent of wiping them out completely. It wasn't genocide... yeah, right. I guess because it didn't succeed (not for lack of trying). Maybe if the poor guy had said attempted genocide, he wouldn't have been lynched by the enemy-of-the-week suckups at State.

A great book depicting what happened in one village of Turkey during this time is "The Forty Days of Musa Dagh". Published about 1921. At a New Years party nearly 20 years ago I ran into a buddy that was working L.A.P.D. swat who complained he was stuck guarding a Turkish envoy. I suggested he go to the library and find this book. The envoy noticed him reading it, and he was immedietly (that day) given another assignment on the swat team.
The Jews, to their great credit adopted the motto "Never Again" and created Israel, a small super-state that has whipped the girlymen Arabs on three seperate occassions.
I have no doubt that the Aremenian genocide took place, it should be honored, this is stupid state department nonsense, all true.
Still, a great people do not make a cause of their own defeat. Revenge is still the most fitting of historical monuments.
Somebody should give Condy a good English dictionary. She was lectured by Madeline Albright's father and he is no American and his English could be at fault. He made an idiot out of his own daughter and one pupil with serious lack of judgement.
According to Condy, Muslim-Croat -Serb civil war in Bosnia (100,000 casualties, 50,000 Muslims) is a GENOCIDE OF MUSLIMS.
At the same time, when Muslims wipe out 1.5 MILION Armenians, it is no genocide.
Puzzling. One can only conclude that for Condy word genocide does not mean the same as for the rest of the world. Perhpas for her it means "propaganda hoax", and therefore there is "Bosnian genocide" but no Armenian genocide, because what happened 1915-23 in Asia Minor is the truth and what happened 1992-95 in the Balkans is the lie.
Ufortunatelly, when Condy speaks, she gets misunderstood by the rest of the world.
Hand her a dictionary, because this is a disgrace for U.S. of A.
And the Mexican illegals are our rulers so we can't offend them either.
It takes real guts to stay in the W administration.
I swear, I'm beginning to think George Bush has been replaced with a pod person...
