Read My Lips: No New Amnesty

On the bright side, if President Bush's amnesty proposal for illegal immigrants ends up hurting Republicans and we lose Congress this November, maybe the Democrats will impeach him and we'll get Dick Cheney as President.

Get Yours FREE!
At least Bush has dropped his infernal references to slacker Americans when talking about illegal immigrants. In his speech Monday night, instead of 47 mentions of "jobs Americans won't do," Bush referred only once to "jobs Americans are not doing" -- which I take it means other than border enforcement and intelligence-gathering at the CIA. For the record, I'll volunteer right now to clean other people's apartments if I don't have to pay taxes on what I earn.

Also, someone must have finally told Bush that the point about America being a "nation of immigrants" is moronic. All nations are "nations of immigrants" -- as Peter Brimelow pointed out brilliantly in his 1992 article in National Review on immigration, which left nothing for anyone else to say.

Of the "nation of immigrants" locution, Brimelow says:

"No discussion of U.S. immigration policy gets far without someone making this helpful remark. As an immigrant myself, I always pause respectfully. You never know. Maybe this is what they're taught to chant in schools nowadays, a sort of multicultural Pledge of Allegiance. ... Do they really think other nations sprouted up out of the ground?"

Brimelow then ran through the Roman, Saxon, Viking, Norman-French, Welsh and Celtic immigrant influences in Britain alone.

Instead of a moratorium on new immigration, I'd settle for a moratorium on the use of the expression "We're a nation of immigrants." Throw in a ban on "Diversity is our strength" and you've got my vote for life.

Bush has also apparently learned that the word "amnesty" does not poll well. On Monday night, he angrily denounced the idea of amnesty just before proposing his own amnesty program. The difference between Bush's amnesty program and "amnesty" is: He'd give amnesty only to people who have been breaking our laws for many years -- not just a few months. (It's the same program that allows Teddy Kennedy to stay in the Senate.)

Bush calls this the "rational middle ground" because it recognizes the difference between "an illegal immigrant who crossed the border recently and someone who has worked here for many years." Yes, the difference is: One of them has been breaking the law longer. If our criminal justice system used that logic, a single murder would get you the death penalty, while serial killers would get probation.

Bush claimed the only other alternative -- I assume this is the "irrational extreme" -- is "a program of mass deportation." Really? Is the only alternative to legalizing tax cheats "a program of mass arrest of tax cheats"?

This is the logic of the pro-abortion zealots (aka "the Democratic Party"): Either lift every single restriction on abortion or ... every woman in America will be impregnated by her father and die in a back-alley abortion!

Those are your only two answers? Do you need another minute?

How about the proposal made on Brimelow's Web site that illegal immigrants be told they have two months to leave the country voluntarily and not have their breaking of our immigration laws held against them when they apply for citizenship from their home countries -- or not leave and be banned from U.S. citizenship forever?

Or how about just not giving illegal aliens green cards -- as Bush is proposing -- and deport them when we catch them?

Instead of choosing immigrants based on the longevity of their lawbreaking, another idea is to choose the immigrants we want, for example, those who speak English or have special skills. (And by "special skills" I don't mean giving birth to an anchor baby in a border-town emergency room.)

Why not use immigration the way sports teams use the draft -- to upgrade our roster? We could take our pick of the world's engineers, doctors, scientists, uh ... smoking-hot Latin guys who stand around not wearing shirts between workouts. Or, you know, whatever ...

As Peter Brimelow says in his book, "Alien Nation: Common Sense About America's Immigration Disaster," why not choose immigrants who are better than us?

Bush thinks it's not fair to favor people with special skills -- a policy evidenced by his Harriet Miers pick.

How about this: It's not fair to want to go out with someone just because that person is attractive and has a good personality because it discriminates against people who are ugly with bad social skills! That's our immigration policy.

Press "1" for English; press "2" for a new President ...

It depends on what the meaning of the word 'amnesty' is.

LOL! Thru the whole article. But this one takes the cake:

I could support it with a little modification. If they leave voluntarily, they would be allowed to apply for legal entry after a period of fifteen years and upon payment of a thirty thousand dollar processing fee. Be allowed in to apply for citizenship should be worth at least five times what the coyotes charge.

I'm not familiar with him or his writings. Please point me to an example of racism from him.

Unfortunately, to do so, I'd have to link to Vdare, which Jim Robinson--no leftie he--has seen fit to ban linking to because of their overall racism.

Suffice it to say that, once you finish parsing the euphemistic language (he gets more strained and tortured than John Kerry's "I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it"), he doesn't like the fact that so many brown folks are coming to America, even legally.

That's a good thing. Too many choices can be confusing. All we really need are the daily press briefings from the W.H. and a glass of Flavor Aid.

I'm a Vdare.com Republican. OK, that will get me banned from here, not for advocating racism, but for advocating sensible limits on immigration. It seems that if you're NOT for mass immigration, you're a racist yahoo. Ann Coulter and most Americans must threfore be racist yahoos by definition, since they think amnesty is out of place in the immigration debate.

Yeah, the difference is it completely surrounds the territory, is fairly substantial, is equipped with vehicle traps on the outside, has more than one guard per mile, and is well equipped with all sorts of whiz-bang monitoring electronics.

Amnesty today, tomorrow and forever and f*ck you racist yahoos. At least we heard the Senate's message to the country, courtesy of Hagel, Martinez and Kennedy.

May 17: Kyl amendment (SA 4027 [submitted for himself, Cornyn, Graham, Allen, McCain, Frist, Brownback, Martinez, Hagel, and Alexander]) Summary: Prohibits an illegal alien from being eligible for amnesty if he/she: (1) is subject to a removal (except for removal solely on grounds of inadmissibility based on illegal entry, unlawful presence, or failure to maintain legal immigration status); (2) fails to depart during a period of voluntary departure; (3) has been convicted of a felony or at least three misdemeanors; (4) is subject to reinstatement of a removal order after illegal reentry; or (5) has been determined by DHS to constitute a danger to homeland security or to have committed a serious crime outside the United States prior to his or her arrival, or the community of the United States. Authorizes DHS to waive these barriers to amnesty if an alien was ordered removed on the basis that he/she entered without inspection, failed to maintain status, or was ordered removed prior to April 7, 2006, and: (1) demonstrates that he/she did not receive notice of removal proceedings; or (2) establishes that his/her failure to appear was due to exceptional circumstances beyond the control of the alien (e.g., serious illness of the alien, serious illness or death of the alien’s spouse, child, or parent). 99-0 PASSED

My head hurts! Are the people who wrote this from earth?

I'm laughing at the people that, two years ago, salivated at the mention of Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, etc., and demanded a picture to go with the post, who are now trashing them.

We're all blatantly racist because we're good Americans. See, its that white guilt talking. America sucks, whites suck and patriotism sucks. But you can at least say si puede! in Spanish without any one thinking that's out of place.

The thing I like about conservatives is they're always looking at the bright side of any issue.

Talk about politics making strange bedfellows, I remember hearing that Bush being impeached would be the huge scare tactic to get us to the polls in Nov, now it may only get a shrug from the base.

They can blame themselves, Bush's codeworded plan of "fair and comprehensive" is worse then what we have now. Never in a million years did I think I would say this, but honestly I would root for no bill and Bush impeached by wild eyed leftist in the congressional majority after this fall then I would with Hagel-Martinez bill.

Go to the "links" page. Featured there, still, is the departed Sam Francis, who could charitably be described as a separatist. Go to his blog archive and read the anti-black comments from some of his devotees.

Also there is Joe Sobran, who has appeared as a guest speaker at the conventions of the Institute for Historical Research, an organization of Holocaust deniers.

Richard Lynn is a Eugenicist who favors selective abortions to raise the collective IQ of the country.

And Limits to Growth, which attacks the Catholic Church as being primarily responsible for "overcrowding" and for the "horde" of illegal immigrants in America.

Jim won't allow vdare.com to be linked, nor will he allow articles by Francis or Sobran to be posted here.

I keep hearing that certain things are soon to be outlawed here. Mindless bashing is not good and the owner of this site surely has the right to ban it. He has the right to ban anything.

I do not equate criticism or disagreement with bashing. The Bushbots seem to. I don't know if they speak for the owner or just, in some cases, presume to. I'm not curious.

If any site bans disagreement, it becomes nothing more than a bunch of mindless yahoos seconding everything that is said. I have no current knowledge that would lead me to believe that someone plans to convert his site into that type of pathetic entity.
