"Don'tcha think we've accomplished our goals in Afghanistan and Iraq or are you one of the Bushies that believe we can bring peace to a land that will NEVER realize peace."

I am not that optimistic (that we are done) nor pessimistic (that victory is impossible), I am realistic... Iraq can and will be a stable democracy if we stay the course. It will be a partly screwedup nation due to the Arab-muslim culture, but it has achieved the key milestones towards functioning democratic rule. we CAN and will win, by defeating terrorists and giving Iraq a chance to show a better governing model than Mullah-theocracy and dictatorship.

The terrorists are going to have to be ground into dust.
They are still there, albeit we kill hundreds each week.

Here's a website keeping score of the violence of 'the religion of peace':

http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/

"Witless would be those who choose to follow a president lock step no matter his policies. Wise up and be an independent thinker man."

Alway was, always will be. The wise ones are the ones staying level-headed and not stampeding on one issue.

The only choice for a conservative in November is Republican Party. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ... what's your word? ... WITLESS.

epow, you are right.

And you are also right to raise that anecdote about how the economy is really working. We dont check the ID of people we buy stuff from. They work for small businesses and fill the demand... the shadow economy wont go away no matter how much 'enforcement' is done. It can at best be reduced.

Given that, a guest worker program will need to be a part of the solution, and/or expanded visas. Supply and demand - if there is a demand for labor, we can cut it down somewhat, but to really end illegal immigration, some level of legal guest workers is needed to displace that economic demand.

Note that neither amnesty nor mass deportations is needed as a 'solution'. If they are 'just here for work' why give them a path to citizenship that is ahead of legal immigrants? That is wrong, as is the whole concept of amnesty and 'earned legalization'. That is an invitation to more illegal immigration. It also is a burden on welfare state.

Give workers wanting to work in the US a 'temporary worker' permit. Have NO amnesty for illegals, but have them return to their home country and get in line for the legal permit.

... THAT is a solution.

1. secure the border
2. employment enforcement
3. some expanded guest worker program
4. NO amnesty

BTW, it is the Cornyn-Kyl solution. It's a pity that it is not the model for compromise in the Senate, hooked on amnesty a la McCain - Kennedy.

"Most people I know don't agree with goin over to Iraq and playin mammie maid. Go kick some @$$ and get the hell out. People I know can't understand the out of control spending on the Federal level, most are completely puzzled by Bush's relationship with Fox and the flood gates have remained open---wide open."

"So stop hangin' around lefties."

LOL. ..

BTW, I think our Marines and soldiers in Iraq would take GREAT EXCEPTION to the mammie maid comment. Every day, we are killing terrorists in Iraq. It's not pattycake ...

"WASHINGTON, May 12, 2006 – Coalition and Iraqi forces killed three insurgents in two separate incidents, and the Iraqi National Police discovered a large weapons cache in Baghdad between May 10 and yesterday.

Coalition forces killed one insurgent and wounded another as they were attempting to plant aroadside bomb east of Hawija in Iraq's Kirkuk province yesterday.

During a nighttime aerial reconnaissance mission, helicopters from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, discovered two insurgents digging near a road in an effort to place a bomb. The aircrews shot both insurgents.

A ground team of soldiers from 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division, and 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, moved into the area and confirmed that one insurgent was dead. The second was wounded but was not found at the site. The ground team also discovered AK-47 assault rifles, hand grenades and several ammunition magazines. The bomb was made up of artillery rounds and was destroyed in a controlled blast. "

"There family are globalist. They don't care one bit how the outsourcing of American jobs are effecting the middle class in this country."

Look at American jobs - increasing - 5 million jobs.
Look at incomes - rising.
Economy? It is growing gangbusters.
Even the trade deficit was better than expected lately.
Middle class is doing better.

... our economy is doing great, and you are elated, right?
No, you are spouting nonsense about how the end is near thanks to outsourcing. Outsourcing obviously cant be that bad for our economy, it grew over 4% in the last quarter, this despite high oil prices, rising interest rates, and other risks. Likewise, one can only conclude that Bush's tax-cut-based tort-reform-based free-trade-based policies really ARE the right way to run the economy.

"I don't mind outsourcing so much as outsourcing to the point of driving the American standard of living downward."

But our standard of living is going UP, you witless fool.
Per capita income is up 10% in the last 3 years!
$26,000 to $27,750. source: BLS.

Geez, if you are going to spread doom-and-gloom, at least wait for an actual bad economy to spout your nostroms.

THE U.S. ECONOMY IS DOING GREAT.

I've been in Texas since long before Bush was made Governor.

Everyone who saw Bush in action knows where he is coming from, exactly. Bush is a genuine statesman and gentleman, and he is someone who has tried to keep his words on many issues. As Texas Governor, he ran on 3 issues, and he met them all. His reelection was stunning, 70% of the vote.

You can credit Bush with a large share of why Texas is today a 100% Republican state, with zero state offices in Dem hands. His legacy.

"Most natives are very conservative"

Yes, sure, but they still voted for liberal feminist Ann Richards in 1990. I too am more conservative than Bush, and told my family of liberals once that my only problem with Bush was that he wasn't conservative enough.

I know the Bush that took on Tom Pauken, and the Bush that almost signed on to tax increases for education in 1998. (We conservatives are getting a much better deal than that today - Perry's Sharp commision tax is a *real tax cut* and the liberals are howling about that, but it will work, and will be a good deal overall.)

But Bush has been open about what his position is on things and he's never wavered. If you werent clued in by his 'compassionate conservative' remark, or his comment in 1999 criticizing some of the GOP budget-cutting, at least be honest enough to admit that Bush has been advocating guest worker progam since 2004, and has not budged substantially on it.

I just wish he'd go for the guest-worker program of Kyl-Cornyn, the one that is least like MCCain-Kennedy and most like the Tancredo position, at least in the Senate.

What is there to heal?...

You're one to criticize others for "insane rhetoric" and then generally referring to people who disagree with you as "wacked-out."

I'm not on a Republican forum promoting anti-republican stances. Are you? Now that's insane.

Last time I checked, Jim Robinson didn't define FR as a "Republican forum." Check the home page, Sherlock: It doesn't say "Republican," nor does it say "anti-Democrat," it says "conservative."

Liberal policies don't magically become conservative simply because desperate Republicans embrace them. If what's important to you are party labels, suit yourself. You'll be happy with Bush's amnesty policy with its fig leaf of half-hearted border enforcement. I ain't.

The game has not changed, we face the same enemy, same challenges. The Beast never dies!

May 10, 2006 | Jim Robinson

"We must not allow this domestic enemy to destroy us from within. The enemy I'm speaking of erodes away our constitution, our traditions, our society. It infiltrates and controls our government departments and agencies at every level. Infiltrates our public institutions, schools, churches, news media, entertainment industry, corporate entities, especially our political parties."

"And I'm directly speaking of the primary American home of socialism/liberalism and the party that champions all of the above isms and includes them in their party platform, and in addition to all of the above also directly aids and abets the foreign enemy: the Democrat Party."

"Recognize the enemy for what he is and do not allow them to use divisive issues to destroy our conservative movement. We are winning. We must not be sidetracked by an issue that will be solved in due time as we elect more conservative members to our government and continue replacing liberal activist judges with constitutionalists."

I figured you might cite a Jim Rob post which disagrees with my opinion of the current situation. Jim founded Free Republic, and I am thankful he did. But wisely, he does not limit participation to those who pledge allegiance to the GOP.

There was once a time JimRob railed against the idea of the Republicans engineering the uncontested candidacy of George W. Bush (I recall he wrote something about how rejecting dynasties was the foundation of the American Revolution). His mind changed about that eventually.

The day JimRob says all posts must agree with his is the day I sign off forever. I think Jim is smarter than that.

Of course no one says you have to agree...but I still think the rhetoric calling for a third party, revolution and sitting out the election is insane.

I did not accuse you of the above but I am simply making a blanket statement that some here are trying to hold onto our conservative gains while the immigration issue is worked out.

Those gains have be brought about by the Republicans.

If you call your forum conservative you might as well then call it Republican. We will never get ANYTHING conservative out of the Dems, ever.

"Iraq can and will be a stable democracy if we stay the course"

Keep on dreaming. Peace with Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and the like in proximity. Thats like putting a coyote in charge of guarding the hen house.

There will never be peace in the middle east. History has proven this out. Dictatorships and totalitarian regimes with little regard for their own peoples are the rule in the M.E.

If muslim countries don't have a great satan to fight, they fight amongst neighboring countries. If there not fighting between neighboring countries, they fight among the various tribes.

Oh and by the way, Republicans will win ONLY if they start acting like conservatives. At the present, the electorate is having a difficult time discerning the difference between the two parties. Now thats WITLESS

Your good, I mean your really good. How did you know I was a Lefty, you found me out, your good.

I am not disparaging our troops. You missed the mark on both counts.

I was referring to zero combat deaths in the initial invasion in both Gulf wars, it was only after we started playing mammie maid (policing the populace) when the death toll started to mount. I believe the troops love kicking butt, they just don't like being sitting ducks.

Our troops realize great success everyday, but we are also taking pretty significant casualties.

I have never been for cut and run, but if your gonna be there, elevate man power substantially and give them more assets to finish this damn thing.

I think that people are just tired of these politicians on both sides.

I can't see the Republicans doing allot to protect the conservative base. They run on conservative platforms then in office move from right to left, Dems wish they were in office and run on platforms that are centrist then move left when in office.

In either case most politicians move left to center or center to left, this is why the electorate has a hard time distinguishing the difference.

I want my Gipper back.

As I write there are attorneys fashioning plausible deniability defenses for scum-sucking employers of illegals. "What? Jose was illegal? I never knew. He gave us a social security number. How were we to know?"
