I hate to be cynical, but I bet they didn't get there protection money, that's why they were waiting. The Mexican people are some of the most long suffering and wonderful people I have ever had the good fortune to meet.
Also gives cover to the other runners who DID pay their "fair share".
I do not trust the Mexican government.
