MUSKEGON -- Two officers are being disciplined for accidentally shooting at each other inside a Muskegon home.
Officers responded April 1 to the home in the 700 block of McLaughlin Avenue for a report of a possible kidnapping.
Three people were in the homes basement when police burst through the front and rear doors.
Investigators say one of the officers thought he was in danger from somebody with a gun. The second officer returned fire in the direction of where that shot came from.
The Muskegon police chief says action has been taken against the officers involved, although he wouldn't reveal details because it is a personnel matter.

Investigators say one of the officers thought he was in danger from somebody with a gun. He wasn't wrong.

Precisely. Sounds like a legitimate shoot to me.

Perhaps they should ask, " Who 'Dat " , prior to shooting?

Funny how they never have to reveal what action they took. Usually a day or two after the incident, the cops release some vague statement about the incident being a "training error that is being corrected". These guys can't be expected to make coffee without first attending a training seminar.

Of course, if a citizen thought he faced a risk from a "person with a gun" and shot a cop in the same way, there would be felony charges from here to the moon. One set of rules for us, another set of rules for them. Caste systems aren't just for India any more.

I can see it OK. Must be a hiccup in cyberland.

What if one or both shot each other? Would that be a personnel issue? /s

You would think the public, the employer, would have the right to know what is in it's employee's files.
Must be that the cops do not work for the public.
Either the employer has a right to see what is in the employees file or the employer does not.
If the public is not the employer, then cops should not claim to be public employees, out to serve the public, blah blah blah.

The tactics are screwed up. The cops in the rear should just guard the back door while the front is being entered. Give these guys TDY to Fort Bragg or Paradise Island to learn how to plan and think. And they can have fun in the Confidence Course. I liked that so much I got graduated and was told to pack up for my next duty assignment:)

No doubt, I have the right to see who did what and what action was taken. Me, you, and everybody else is a member of the public that the cops are supposedly protecting.
What ticks me off is that they get to have it both ways. They get access to my personal information at will, but I don't get to see anything that happens within their department except for what I can scrounge up in the newspapers.

Note the date of the action - fits right in with that April Fools thing!

Note to self...place full length mirrors backed by bullet resistant Lexon sheets several inches thick...
That way when the louts come charging through the door hopped up on adrenaline guns a blazing...maybe no one will get hurt before the norepinephrine mediates the crisis...
