Telecommuting need not be an everyday thing. More like one day a week.

There are a lot of significant downsides to outsourcing, as many have learned in the last few years.

If companies, which are able to, allowed 25% of their employees to telecommute one day a week, it could have a significant impact on oil consumption and traffic congestion.

I had a manager who came in and forbade any form of telecommuting, did away with flex-time, and wanted the entire department to work 9 AM - 5:30 PM (now that's good on traffic). That lasted until his boss found out he telecommuted a couple days per week, and came in whenever he pleased.

Telecommuting when possible, and flextime would help a lot.
