Iraq problematical minority Sunni population of up to 20-30% have a vested interest in the previous status quo under Saddam and have either aided or abetted insurgents or are directly involved in low level guerilla warfare with us and the newly formed Iraqi government. I have seen articles quoted here on FR that Iran, while having many Westernized, Mullah-hating citizens, has a minority 20-30% of its population represented by Islamo-fascist Shiite Regime Supporters.

Hypothetical Question: While I believe we will have to confront these clowns sooner or later, can we afford another low-level conflict involving a sizable portion of an unruly civilian population willing to wage guerrilla warfare at the present time?

No... and that's why I think more decisive measures will be used if push comes to shove.
