New Italian Exit Polls Suggest Narrow Win For Berlusconi’s Center-Right Coalition

April 10, 2006 4:10 p.m. EST

Joanna Wypior - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Rome, Italy (AHN) – As counting continues in the Italian election, a new update on the exit polls now suggests a narrow win for Silvio Berlusconi's center-right coalition, giving the current prime minister a slender lead.

Projections based on initial results have suggested that Berlusconi's center-right alliance may retain a majority in both houses of parliament.

With 44 percent of the votes counted for, the Nexus Research Institute gave Berlusconi's coalition a slight 49.9 percent to 49.6 percent edge over challenger Romano Prodi in the 630-seat lower house.

According to BBC correspondents, exit polls in previous Italian elections have often turned out to be inaccurate.

Early estimates indicate turnout of voters to be about 85 percent - higher in the north than the south, with the lowest turnout being on the islands of Sardinia and Sicily.

Nice to see that Italian exit polls are no more accurate than ours. This morning it sounded like the left coalition was going to win...now Berlusconi will squeak one out?

This is a shocker. Everyone had Prodi (of the Left) up by 4 points or so going into the vote.

Obviously the election was stolen. There should be at least three moonbat books on the shelves by Friday with the evidence.

Drudge currently has a story posted about the lefties headed for a win. It is dated 2:17 pm EST today.

Is this 4:10 pm EST reliable?

Got up this morning and Burlusconi was toast. Now he seems to be ahead. This morning the MSM was gleeful; now it is sorrowful. Easy to figure.

It's 2004 all over again. Never believe the lying liberal media's spin on exit polling.
