GM still sells the most cars in the US

...and yet sales are dropping. They're laying off big time, buying out. A huge portion of their sales I would guess are municipal. Meanwhile China may be selling their cars here soon. At Wal Mart, maybe?

GM sells many cars in China and is building more plants in China.. Buick is the biggest seller.

Manufactures and regular American have known of intense competition since Lee Iacocca took to the airwaves to implore us to "Buy American". Sorry, protecting jobs at the expense of the wealth of their countrymen is an European idea, not an American one. Reagan knew that. Too bad too many people who claim to be Conservatives don't.

The biggest problem for automakers is that they have already sold everyone in
America a car or two. It is called market saturation. they had a slick plan to deal with that called planned obscelence, but Ralph Nader put a stop to that. Now cars cost a lot more and last a lot longer. It might have been better if union thugs had put out a contract on him, better for the UAW, that is.
