Leave it to NBC to dwell on the negative.

Thanks so much for starting the Olympic threads. They've been great. See you in four years!

My sister knows a friend of hers that went to high school with her, and she said that Lisa has ALWAYS had those botched-plastic surgery lips, that they are not fake!

It's hard to believe, but that's what the buzz is around here in Medford, where Lisa is from...

Sasha deserved the silver for this performance alone.

This was an amazing Olympics for Germany and sets things up really nice for the World Cup.

This is an excellent time to be living in Germany. :)

Well, I accidentally saw part of a repeat of the closing during the overnight period and ha ha on me. I was watching, then looking away, reading the thread, then looking back at the TV, during the first time around.

Ha - it just happened that I was not looking during the times they showed that Boccelli was actually in the stadium - and the couple of times I looked at him (I was more intent on *listening* than watching), were the handful of times he was shown against a neutral type background that didn't reveal the crowds or any of the stadium backdrop.

Too funny on the timing of that, when the anncr was saying he comes to us from Tuscany. I had no idea he was there in the stadio, as I had not seen any shots that showed that. Total misunderstanding on my part, until I saw the whole thing in the repeat.

Same with the dousing of the flame. I had not been looking when they did it the first time and completely missed it. Then, in the repeat, I saw the retired gold medalist skier who was dressed up as one of the groomless brides (how humiliating was that? - unless it's some type of honor there or something) go up and douse her calla lily, which extinguished the big flame. As Peggy Lee would say ... if that's all there is, my friend, then let's keep dancing ...

Arrividerci, Torino!

Thanks for that info. I had a "funny feeling" they might be real, because it seemed like if there had been injections, whatever was put in could have been taken back out. Bless her heart. Wonder if anyone else in her family has the same condition.

What on God's green earth is Bob Costas doing asking the president of Harvard to reconsider somebody's rejection?

NBC should be barred for a lifetime for doing such hideous coverage of the Olympics. Bob never misses an opportunity to say what's on his mind, even if it's arrogant, elitist, and snooty.

The commentators were horrible. The scheduling of events was just downright goofy. (I understand the time difference)

And what the hell was the significance of Ricky Martin? Isn't he from Puerto Rico?

"I didn't know they had acrobats in Canada!".... what the hell? GEEZ!

Thank God it's over.

I am just glad France had such a successful Olympics. Their 29 surrenders was their lowest total in over 80 years.

So did I, [watch Bleak House] (my favorite Dickens novel) until a phone call interrupted the program. Luckily, I was taping it "just in case."

I assume you were referring to Andrea Bocelli.

That's him :) I might have to buy one of his CD. He was the highlight of the ceremonies last night.

Hey, I'd settle for Germany and the US going 1-2 in the World Cup. (You got lucky against us last time)

May I bring the discussion back to the subject of this thread? Thanks.

For me, the worst part of the TV coverage was the lack of suitable title information. For instance, if you came into the room a second too late, it's possible you would never know who the athlete was that was performing. One would think that an identifying name(s) would be flashed on at least once midway through an event or a performance.

Accompanying this default was the fact that when identifying names and national flags were shown, they were down in the lower left corner, so absolutely tiny that you needed a search warrant to read them.

Comparative running-clock times were flashed on so briefly that the eye couldn't focus in time to digest them, even if you were lucky enough to read them without squinting.

The TV producers apparently never once woke up to the fact that the athletes wore little or no identifying logos or flags as to what country they were from. They undoubtedly assumed that viewers were able to glean this information by magic. Magic was indeed needed to identify specific nationalities out of the scores of white-clad snow-athletes all dressed identically like teletubbies.

The mishandling, sheer stupidity and thoughtlessness in the lack of enlightening screen information should make it obligatory that NBC be banned from ever televising the Olympics again.

There was a show on Discovery about the Shroud. Toward the end, they showed the fire you're talking about. That fireman that wielded the sledge hammer to break the glass looked like he was possesed with an inner strength to get to the Shroud. After the opening was large enough, he, along with a few other firefighters carried It out fast but reverently. Now they are true heroes. He said later that he was just doing his job and there was no way he was going to let the Shroud be destroyed. Again, I hope to one day be in It's presence. That is the ONE object I'd truly love to see.

What time does the Olympics start? I hear the USA Ice Hockey team has a chance for a gold medal and Bode Miller should win between 4-5 golds.
