My husband's Boy Scout troop is doing wilderness camping in the N.GA mountains this weekend!
He's over at the scout hut right now briefing the boys (and their parents) on cold-weather camping - and he and the other scoutmasters are doing a pack-check to make sure that the kids have what they're supposed to (and DON'T have cotton socks, sweatshirts, etc. COTTON is ROTTEN!)
He's taking his zero degree bag AND his minus-20 bag and will layer them. Plus the small double-wall tent. Plus every piece of long underwear he owns . . . and his Sorels.
And my son is going to a paintball match . . . and I'm taking the dog out shooting. But at least we'll have a place to get warm . . .
Cantcha put it up for adoption instead?
I with you on weekend activities.
I'm in Ct and I'm off with my son (9) dog (4) and a friend to chase after some birds.
I hope we don't get a foot of snow.
If we do... oh well.
Cheers!!
Sounds like your husband knows what he's talking about.
Personally, I thrive on this stuff. I got snowshoes ready to go, a single wall high vent tent, and a candle lantern that will drive up my tent temp at least 10 degrees.
I'm going in, somewhere, not sure yet, at least ten miles. Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow!!!
Tell your husband I would love to drive down your way and take the kiddies on an adventure such as this...sometime.
I'm supposed to be in the garage doing a timing belt. I'm wondering if I shouldn't put that off, and do it on a warmer weekend.
My wife is taking our daughter and a group for the girl scouts on their winter weekend camping trip and there is no snow at all here in sunny southern California at the camp site.
Might as well stay home and sit at the beach with the rest of the family.
