LIVE SENATE THREAD: C-span 2 - Noon EST; "Suppose the Dems throw a filabuster and NOBODY comes?"
C-span 2

Posted on 01/27/2006 8:38:03 AM PST by ken5050

The Senate meets at noon today, again in Executive Session, for the 3rd day of debate on the nomination of Samuel Alito to SCOTUS. Not sure, what, if anything, will happen today..Will there be a filabuster?..will anyone show up..might be work while checking out the beginning of the session, to get the lay of the land....

The cloture vote will be Monday afternoon, then the vote on Alito will occur Tuesday morning.

You don't think the 'rats will use all of the 30 hours of debate time after cloture just to delay the vote until after the SOTU?

If the libDems try to filibuster, Frist to call their bluff and force them to do a real one, not one of these new faux filibusters where they only have to show up a couple of hours a couple of times each week.

IIRC that would require a rules change. The rules for a fillibuster were changed quite a few years ago. It now takes 3/5 of the senators SWORN to invoke cloture. In the past (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) it was 3/5 of the senators PRESENT

(I prefer the old way - make them work for their dissent...)

Maybe someone can slip in excerpts from that Iraqi General's new book, Saddam's Secrets into their notes and they'll wind up reading about how the WMDs were sent to Syria - oh man, can you imagine that getting into the senate record?

That doesn't seem to affect Bingaman of NM. I'd bet his input is strong for Alito but he is known for ignoring his constituents and yet he gets re-elected regularly.

Kerry would probably just bring in servants and flunkies to filibuster for him. Privilege of the wealthy, you know.

Delay, delay, delay. Usual demonRat tactics.

The dims are digging themselves into a deeper and deeper hole/hell, which in itself is not bad, come to think of it.
