Iris Scanning For New Jersey Grade School
DRUDGE REPORT ^

Posted on 01/24/2006 7:57:15 AM PST by Grendel9

Funding for the project, more than $369,000, was made possibly by a school safety grant through the National Institute of Justice, a research branch of the U.S. Department of Justice. "The idea is to improve school safety for the children," said Phil Meara, superintendent, Freehold Borough School District, on Monday. "We had a swipe-card system that operated the doors, but the technology was obsolete." ...

They HAVE to know that the Real End Result of this Iris scanning is to have a record on file of every American, citizen or no. OK, so fingerprints are outmoded and after watching so many movies on how to circumvent the fingerprint test, a new technique is required. I go for it! Just don't try to tell me, HP, et al., that it's all to protect our kids. And the Dept of Justice is picking up the tab for the machines?

Admittedly, schools have a huge responsibility in making sure the legal guardian is the one signing out the child. It can be a tough call at times, and having 4 approved persons per child is a big feature.

Having 4 adults per child enrolled is also a big asset to government files. It sure makes Social Security cards obsolete!

BTW, the plan has been in effect for some time now...the Government having access to to all the records obtained via these machines. Ya gotta love it!

As a practical matter, how does this improve school safety?

It doesn't just allows big brother to track you better and build that database of personal data.

Well, even then, how useful is it?

So they have a picture of my retina. Does that make it easier to track me? Or catch me if I am a fugitive?

I don't get it.

Big Brother. Big Sister. Big Government. Everyone is pitching in to keep track of everybody.

I'm glad I'm getting old. The younger generation is in for big surprises in the not too distant future.

And that makes the kids safer, how? There's more to this than meets the eye. Amazingly, the parents aren't raising eye brows over Big Brother eyeing their kids so closely. It won't be long before there's a study which will conclude iris scanning causes vision loss and cancer.

Now there's $369,000 that did not educate 1 child.

National Institute of Justice, NGO filtering the monies through the DOJ. Using the DOJ as leverage; but this is NOT a FEDERAL initiative.

Once again, the government is making us safe from law-abiding citizens. Would iris scanners have stopped the creeps at Beslan? I do believe they would've just punched through some windows or blown a hole in a wall to get in.

Thank God that all our schools are gun-free zones. Gotta keep those kids safe! (sarcasm)

It isn't just the retina. This is the SAME thing that is being done with the livestock tracking AND it is coming from the same granting project of the NGOs.

EVERYTHING, is being collected for one big global database.

See my link I added called Healthy People 2010.

Where do I get the idea that schools are glorified prisons?

Implementing this kind of measure in Freehold Borough is about as relevant to me as implementing it in Mexico City. Anyone who is familiar with that part of New Jersey will know exactly what I mean.

Funding is through the Dept. of Justice. National Inst. of Justice is a "research" branch. Just what are they researching?
Before they spent this $369,000, plus the costs of keeping it operational... where are the studies that prove a need for this level of security?
If I were a parent in this district I would want to know exactly what Phil Meara's (and the rest of the school board) reasoning is for adopting this system of security. As for swipe card technology, how can it be "obsolete"? It's used everywhere else successfully. Last time I stayed in a hotel the rooms were keyed with a swipe card.

NO. I have the CFRs. The funds and initiative came from the NGOs.
