A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....12-19-05....Military Monday
Billie, The Mayor

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Respect

Read:
1 Timothy 6:1-6

Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor. —1 Timothy 6:1

Bible In One Year: 1 Timothy 4-6

cover As a schoolteacher, my wife has noticed that behavior seems to be deteriorating with each successive class of students. Many children show little respect for older people.

First Timothy 6 reveals that disrespect is not unique to our generation. Paul, who ministered to a culture built on slavery, highlighted this concern. He wrote, "Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren" (v.2). Paul knew that slaves, whose welfare depended on their master's goodwill, were capable of being disrespectful.

We may say that people need to show themselves worthy of respect before we can respect them. But respecting another person is much more about who we are than about who the other person is.

Paul gave the main reason believers should excel in respect: "So that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed" (v.1).

Sadly, the worst cases of disrespect are sometimes found among those who claim to follow Jesus. But when believers excel in all they do, God's name is lifted up. All of us are to bring honor and glory to the Lord's name.

Excelling in respect for others honors God. —Albert Lee

O help me, Lord, to show respect,
To always honor You;
And may I bring You highest praise
In everything I do. —Sper

One who would be truly respected must first respect others.

What a great posting. Remember that your military is willing to even march straight into hell so long as it has the support and confidence of the American people. No mission is impossible with that support.

God bless America!

he Rules of Combat
Murphy's Rules of Combat

* Friendly fire - isn't.
* Recoilless rifles - aren't.
* Suppressive fires - won't.
* You are not Superman; Marines and fighter pilots take note.
* A sucking chest wound is Nature's way of telling you to slow down.
* If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.
* Try to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo and not want to waste a bullet on you.
* If at first you don't succeed, call in an air strike.
* The enemy attacks on two occasions: when he's ready and when you’re not
* If you are forward of your position, your artillery will fall short
* All 5 second grenade fuses burn down in 3 seconds
* Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself.
* When your attack is going really well, its an ambush
* Never forget that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.
* If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
* The enemy diversion you're ignoring is their main attack.
* No plan ever survives initial contact.
* There is no such thing as a perfect plan.
* A retreating enemy is probably just falling back and regrouping.
* The important things are always simple; the simple are always hard.
* The easy way is always mined.
* Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.
* Don't look conspicuous; it draws fire. For this reason, it is not at all uncommon for aircraft carriers to be known as bomb magnets.
* Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you.
* If you are short of everything but the enemy, you are in the combat zone.
* When you have secured the area, make sure the enemy knows it too.
* Incoming fire has the right of way.
* No combat ready unit has ever passed inspection.
* No inspection ready unit has ever passed combat.
* If the enemy is within range, so are you.
* The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.
* Things which must be shipped together as a set, aren't.
* Things that must work together, can't be carried to the field that way.
* Radios will fail as soon as you need fire support.
* Radar tends to fail at night and in bad weather, and especially during both.
* Anything you do can get you killed, including nothing.
* Make it too tough for the enemy to get in, and you won't be able to get out.
* Tracers work both ways.
* If you take more than your fair share of objectives, you will get more than your fair share of objectives to take.
* When both sides are convinced they're about to lose, they're both right.
* Professional soldiers are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs.
* Military Intelligence is a contradiction.
* Fortify your front; you'll get your rear shot up.
* Weather ain't neutral.
* If you can't remember, the Claymore is pointed towards you.
* Air defense motto: shoot'em down; sort'em out on the ground.
* 'Flies high, it’ll die; low and slow, it'll go.
* The Cavalry doesn't always come to the rescue.
* Napalm is an area support weapon.
* Mines are equal opportunity weapons.
* B-52s are the ultimate close support weapon.
* Sniper's motto: reach out and touch someone.
* The one item you need is always in short supply.
* Interchangeable parts aren't.
* It's not the one with your name on it; it's the one addressed "to whom it may concern" you've got to think about.
* When in doubt, empty your magazine.
* The side with the simplest uniforms wins.
* Combat will occur on the ground between two adjoining maps.
* If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.
* If two things are required to make something work, they will never be shipped together.
* Whenever you lose contact with the enemy, look behind you.
* The most dangerous thing in the combat zone is an officer with a map.
* The quartermaster has only two sizes, too large and too small.
* If you really need an officer in a hurry, take a nap.
* There is nothing more satisfying than having someone take a shot at you, and miss.
* If your sergeant can see you, so can the enemy.
* You'll only remember your hand grenades when the sound is too close to use them.
* Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
* Well .. It could be worse: It could be raining .. and we could be out in it. So he said, "Cheer up: it could be worse!" So we cheered up. And it got worse.
* The spare batteries for whatever your troops have been carrying are either nearly dead or for the wrong radio.
* The ping you heard was the antenna snapping off at 6 inches above the flex mount, while a fire mission was being called in on a battalion of hostiles who know your position.
* Why is it the CO sticks his head in your radio hooch to see if anything has come down from DIV when you are listening to the VOA broadcasting the baseball games?
* How come you are on one frequency when everyone else is on another?
* Why does your 500-watt VRC-26 (real old) not make it across 200 miles while a ham with 50 watts on the same MARS frequency can be heard from Stateside?
* Know why short RTOs have long whips on their radios? So someone can find them when they step in deep water.
* The enemy "Always" times his attack to the second you drop your pant's in the Latrine!!
* The ammo you need NOW is on the NEXT airdrop!!
* Field experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
* If your ambush is properly set the enemy won't walk into it.

Sadly, the worst cases of disrespect are sometimes found among those who claim to follow Jesus.

How true.

I don't either. I posted the America Attacked one twice yesterday as some in the media seem to have forgotten we are at war and that we were attacked right here on US soil.

The political posturing by some of our elected representatives would lead me to believe they think we have forgotten.

God bless those who protect and serve our nation and its people.

Absolutely! Or don't care and just want to tear down Bush and in the mean time tear down the Morale of our Troops. It's sickening. I just sent that link out to an email group as a reminder.
