Ukraine is essentially two countries - with a Russian and Orthodox east, and a Ukrainian and Uniate west. To secure and maintain independance Ukraine needs an energy source other than Russia, and I looked at the list to see what countries were energy exporters. Azerbaijan is but hardly reliable. Romania used to be, but I don't whether it remains so.
