Hagel: Iraq May Become Another Vietnam
AP ^ | December 3 2005

A day after the deadliest attack against American troops in four months in Iraq, U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel said from Iraq's capital that the war effort is in danger of becoming another Vietnam.

Asked by a reporter how many more days like that Americans would be willing to take, Hagel referred to the upheaval in Congress two weeks ago, sparked by a call from Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. -- a Vietnam War veteran and strong military ally -- for a complete pullout within six months.

"I think you saw a manifestation of ... the frustration of the American public break out on the floor of the House and Senate," Hagel said.

The Nebraska Republican made the statement Friday in a conference call from Baghdad -- one stop in a weeklong tour of the Middle East. On Thursday, a roadside bomb killed 10 U.S. Marines and wounded 11 others on a foot patrol near Fallujah.

Has anyone pointed out that Murtha was also behind the cut-and-run in Somalia after the Black-Hawk Down incident, thus emboldening Bin Laden and all those other asshats over there?

Hagel: Iraq May Become Another Vietnam

Here we see Senator Hagel in his usual position as he waits for his orders from McStain!

When Hagel talks, you can smell what McStain had for dinner last night.

Yeah...that's about the totality of the similarities.
If Iraq is Vietnam, then we would have, by about 1966:
Ho Chi Minh in prison and on trial
Most top officials of North Vietnam and the Vietcong dead or in prison.
Democratic elections and a written Constitution.

Remember....Vietnam was 10 years and 58,000 dead (so, we should have about 10,000 dead troops by now?)

Vietnam became Vietnam because every Tom, DICK, and Harry politician wanted to run the war and second guess every military decision. So Sen. Hagel here is a on a mission of self-fulfilling prophecy.

When the press was stating with certainty before the war that we would suffer at least 10,000 KIAs, Sen Hagel still voted for the war, along with all the other critics. We have had FAR fewer causalities than was generally accepted to happen, yet they say the war is going worse than expected.

He's right you know. The politicians then had no guts and wouldn't let our military do what they needed to do. We finally WON the war (not that you'd ever know it from our media) but lost the country because of the spineless politos in Congress.

The American people elected liberal majorities in 2004, and the got what they wanted. The Democrats control the Senate with their majority 44-55, by a margin of negative eleven. [Under the hallowed Senatorial tradition, the Democrats hold a majority unless the Republican caucus exceeds 61 in number, excluding RINOs.]

The Democrats also won control of the House at the 2004 elections; although the numbers do not indicate their victory, they captured the keystone to the House, the office of Travis County prosecutor. Any Distinguished Representative tied to deLay will resign soon, allowing Nancy Pelosi to consolidate her victory as majority leader.

I wish these a-hole politicians would leave war to the military and quit micromanaging everything. If they continue it will be another "Vietnam" because it was they that micromanaged that war into defeat.

Shut the hell up Hagel et al.

Hagel must want us to leave for what reason? To save lives? If he remembers Vietnam so well does this mean he wants new killing fields in the sand?

Yup, I agree and he is my Rep. Word is that he takes money from Soros. He got in cause of his coaching skills, nothing else.

Should be but he has a couple of newspapers behind him so he thinks he's protected. He has no idea how us Nebraskans really think of him.
