NAIROBI (Reuters) - Somali pirates attacked five ships in the past week in a sharp rise of banditry apparently directed from a mysterious "mother ship" prowling the busy Indian Ocean corridor, shipping experts said on Friday.

I have already posted this, but it has been pushed to the bottom of the pile.

When I was in AF intelligence I heard a story. I don’t know if it is true or not, but given the circumstances and the people involved, it could have happened.

In the late 60’s and early 70’s, the Soviets had a bunch of tramp ships that went all over the world with miscellaneous cargo. (Did they have a spy function? I don’t know, I leave that thaught up to you, gentle reader.)

Anyway, they had some problems around the Philippines, where pirates would come out, wave guns around, climb on the ships and steal anything of value they could get into their small boats.

Seems that one time a band of these thieves tried it. They were allowed to climb on board and met with a group of Soviet Naval Special Forces. The pirate boats were sunk with heavy machine-gun fire. The few people on the boats went down with the ships.

The Soviets then lined the pirates up against the railing and proceeded to shoot every two men and threw their bodies overboard. The remaining were told that this would happen again any time a Soviet ship was attacked. They were then tossed overboard and told to swim home and tell their buddies what had happened.

Oh, did I mention that this took place 20 miles or so off the coast? In waters that had sharks?

As I said, this could be an urban legend, but I understand the Soviets never had a pirate problem in that general area again.

‘Nuff said.

Sounds like a believable story to me. The Soviets didnt mess around. I like the story where they has a diplomant kidnapped in Lebonon back in the 80's. He was released after the kidnapper ringleader received his son's ear in the mail with a note to release our diplomat or else...

Why - I'll never get in an accident.

Have you had a U.S. driver's license for more than 3 years?
No, and don't ask me for about my birth certificate either.

Has any driver in your household had 2 or more accidents or moving violations in the last 3 years?
I've moved twice but no one has cited me for it yet.

These are the actual IslamoPirates that went after the cruise ship earlier in the week. I would love to see their *sshole expressions as a .50 caliber weapon was uncovered on deck.

Hi boys!

Bye boys!

This picture was taken from the cruise ship I believe. It was about a hundred miles offshore. I find it difficult to believe that those goblins were out there, that far at sea in that little boat. Obviously it didnt have enough fuel to reach shore.

In the great scope of things, it seems that bait could be put out there and then air cover could follow them to the mother ship, and then fire at will.

ANY ship operating in those waters -- incapable of defending themselves against an open boat "manned" by 4 Islamanazis --- shouldn't be permitted to carry passengers for hire...

This is getting nuts folks -- when 4 assholes in a small open boat are allowed to attack a civilian vessel and live to repeat the act..

Roger that...

"Pirates" (Muslim or Christian) in the Sea Lanes are Fair Game, No bag limit, Open Season and shooting over a baited field is permitted.

If our Navy and Intel are not up to the task - we need a new Navy.

I agree. Someone needs to send their own tramp steamer out there to run back and forth as bait. When the goblins come up, drop the sides of the containers and givem hell with the fiddys.

We have satellites that can document an ant taking a dump, but they cant find the mother ship that is launching those little boats? Please......

If this isn't stopped, it will spiral out of control. Why don't they send out heavily armed decoy ships???

But seriously folks. This is a great time to present a little history lesson. Google Jefferson Barbary Pirates and read about Tom Jeff, who liberals have recast as a pacifist, and how he fought for the US to send the Marines o'er there. You know, to the shores of Tripoli, to put a stop to this. Of course they couldn't get results fighting with the little ships and their crews so instead took the fight to the backers in Algeria or whereever Tripoli sits.

Not one cent for Tribute!

Libya. Ol Kadafy's haunt. That is where we sent our boys to fight and kill 200 year ago. Seems that history does repeat itself.
