1 hour, 5 minutes ago

President Bush on Thursday signed a $100 billion food and farm spending bill that includes a two-year delay on labels telling grocery shoppers where their meat comes from.

The legislation postpones mandatory meat labeling until 2008. Originally sought by Western ranchers and required by law in 2004, country-of-origin labeling has stalled under pressure from meatpackers and supermarkets who call it a record-keeping nightmare.

I would have replied earlier, but I had to chase down my wallet. It screamed and tried to jump out a window.

I'm with you. This Spending Spree is such a disappointment. I couldn't wait for the Clinton years to end in order to see some fiscal responsibility -- I was wrong.

In 2006 and 2008 we have the chance to put the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate in Republican hands and then we can get a grip on spending. Oh wait....

Same here.

If I recall correctly there was some concern that the SARS virus may have been the result of Chinese farmers selling meat from sick or dying pigs. America should have the highest food standards in the world and I want to know that my food isn't being shipped in from some 3rd world nation.

The same day as the House GOP scuttles a budget cut bill.

The GOP has become fat and lazy, a spitting image of the tax and spend Rats of yesteryear. Power corrupts, I suppose. But if this madness continues, I doubt Republicans will be exposed to power's corrupting influence much longer.

The only thing that I don't understand is: You butcher a chicken, freeze it as hard as a bowling ball, thaw it out and you can sell it as a "fresh" chicken. That's the rule. Must be modern science or something like that.

You are just too clever for the President. The fact that the war in Iraq is a joke to you sets you in your rightful place.

"I reckon it's time we started buying locally."

We buy a lot locally. There's a veggie farm and stand at the far end of the lake from us. We've even started buying our beef and eggs down there. I'm always happy to support a small (real) farmer.

Don't buy meat at Wal-Mart... find a local Butcher who can tell you where the meat came from.

I just finished the last two days of butchering and packaging two deer. My freezer is full of locally grown meat.

Of course they could have CWD, but no steroids.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
