Some time weeks earlier we did some looking into the Anne Maria Rehabilitation Center and to their potential role.

DadsGirl, you and your family should take a look at this.

Sorry I'm much later to get to the thread than I usually am. I reread the post myself and saw several things of note. When I checked back on the SC website, I saw that sometimes use of drugs to control behavior (ie: of a lucid person) can be abuse. That certainly seems to be what happened.

The other thing was the number of occupations required to report suspected abuse. Failure to report is a crime. All healthcare workers are included, and there will be many around a nursing home. That may be the way we, as individuals and a group, should go in the future - because there will be more situations like this one. Medical facilities, being corporations, usually never face greater penalties than a fine - the individuals who directly ended the life don't pay. Use the reporting laws to go after every one of them as individuals. Every doctor, nurse, - everyone - who took any action that led to an unwilling death. I understand there are some legal maneuvers to force charging and/or trial. Don't stop there. There are also wrongful death suits, and possibly federal civil rights charges in some cases. Drag insurance companies into court, but only to find out which *individuals* mad the decision to approve the procedures that ended someone's life against their will.

Medical corporations exist under law only as a legal construct, and make no decisions on their own. Every time the life of a person is ended against their will, it was the decisions and actions of individuals that caused it. Individual people are responsible, and individual people must be held responsible. These days it may be impossible to educate them to morality, so they'll have to be educated as to what behavior will not be allowed. The medical industry is on notice.

And that's my rant for this evening.

And Happy Thanksgiving - be thankful we haven't given up yet!
