UPDATE

AARON BROWN OUT AT CNN
Wed Nov 02 2005 15:43:11 ET

To: All CNN Staff

From: Jon Klein

We have made some programming decisions which will impact our prime time schedule as well as our colleague Aaron Brown. Aaron will be leaving CNN and is very much looking forward to some well-deserved time off with his family.

Aaron has made enormous contributions to CNN since his groundbreaking anchoring of Sept. 11th through the war in Iraq to the Tsunami to the recent hurricanes. Outside of the big stories, on a nightly basis, Aaron has provided our audiences with insight into the events of the United States and the world with eloquence and the highest journalist integrity.

Besides his stellar work as an anchor, Aaron stands as an absolutely brilliant writer, evident by the thoughtful perspective he injects into every story he touches.

Personally, I will miss Aaron and his wicked sense of humor. We cannot thank Aaron enough for the skills and professionalism he brought to CNN. Given his respect throughout the industry, there is no question that he will be missed.

CNN never should have put Brown in this position to begin with. Nor should they have let him have the anchor chair for 4 years.... the bad decisions just keep on coming.

He should have never messed with Bernard Goldberg. When Goldberg was promoting his latest book, he was booked on Brown's show while Brown was on vacation. When Brown came back from vacation, he unbooked Goldberg. I think they move Nancy Grace to his spot, if she can get ratings on CNN Headline, she can surely get them on CNN. And although her choice of stories is not my cup of tea, she is much better at the stories Greta tries to do and Rita Crosby tries to do. Evidently, the boys and girls who run cable think the future is in true crime stories ala Scott Peterson and Natalie Holloway. I would love to see Nancy Grace hit Greta in the mouth so Greta could stop talking out of the one side of her mouth that she always talks out of. Nancy definitely has more testosterone than anyone else on cable news.

Some people pass the time by watching sporting events, some people pass the time by following the soap opera of the comings and goings of news readers. If the news reader followers don't put me down for following ball games, I won't down anyone who gets interested in the movements of news readers.

I don't know that he is out...apparently his bio is still on the FOX News site...I just haven't seen him in a long time and miss his dry wit.

I guess I'll just keep watching...and waiting...

Cmon, Brown wasn't that bad. Hello folks? Any of you seen the way farther left journalists? Cheesy okay. Still tolerable!

I read this story on another board, one of the posters said he was glad Brown was gone, too conservative!! I suggested that if he is conservative I am by contrast a clone of Bob Dornan.

Anderson Cooper is mildly dyslexic.

Thanks for the bio, Doc. And judging from it dyslexia may be the least of the little guy's problems.

The problem is these "newsreaders" influence public opinion. And although exaggerated they also influence what IS news to the general public. Hume is a "newsreader" but if you replaced him with Brown you'd have a lot different newscast on FNC.

Thats why I liked Brown and wanted him to stay. He was so obviously liberal, and pompous, quiche eating liberal, no ignorant TV viewer could think the liberal news he was getting from CNN was "objective"

I read the scroll, also.

I've got a thin strip of cardboard taped to the bottom of my TV so I won't have to read the scroll. The scroll drives me insane. As do all the pop-ups on the screen. Can they possibly screw up the viewing area with any more junk than is already there?

If your stomach can take it, here's a quote from the Seattle comPost Intelligencer: "In his radio days, he was Skip Brown. When he switched to TV news in Seattle, he became Aaron Brown, known for delivering the news with intelligence and a wry sense of humor." Smarmy is as smarmy does.

What is driving me crazy is that I seem to remember he was married to an anchor woman of more renown. Anybody know?

Yes. . .and funny how you can see someone on TV almost every day. . .and then not realize they are gone.

Linda had a genuine fresh energy and so she stood out or 'kind of stood out'. ..hard to do more than that, given the 'babe clone' syndrome at Fox News ;^). . .

Another poster offered that she may be on maternity leave. . .just don't know for sure. . .yet.

re scroll and other tv things. . .anyone else experience this?

The same thing happens to me, reading scroll as it does 'catching' a commercial. . .i walk in and catch the commercial at the 'same spot' I did earlier. . .can go a whole day or several. . .and only see from the 'same starting point'.

When I look down to read scroll. . .I see the same half or ending point of message. . .over and over; as I watch the news or programing.

Now THAT. .drives me crazy.

More times than not. . .if I 'start' a program say midway. . .like maybe I have missed all but the last 20 minutes of a show. . .the next time it comes around; I have missed the same 20 minutes. . .happens often with TV movies as well. . .keep missing the same parts. . .

(gives new possbilities - if only irrelevant - to that 'wisdom': what goes aroud, comes around. ;^))

Or is this some kind of variation of 'attention deficit disorder'. .. or worse?

Linda Vestner was annoying. Such a brown noser, you know? There has to be more genuine talent than her on Fox. She just shouted or made faces. I guess you call that journalism huh? Dhue's pretty and doesn't get to do much from her looks. Fox just wants her to stay put so the guys can stare. Come to think of it the only talented people are the opinionated ones at Fox.
