London 06.09.05 | A church located southeast of Caracas in "Barrio El Winche" of Fila de Mariches and attended by the congregation of Laura Sisters and the Salesian Fathers has been invaded and taken over by supporters of Hugo Chavez, El Universal reports today. Members of Endogenous Battle Units (Unidades de Batalla Endógenas or UBE) -a Chavez invention to create a new democratic model of popular support- expressed that the action was taken in order to establish, in the church, a post of military security that shall be manned by Venezuela's National Guard.

Yeah, that'll do it. Seize the churches! Thereby creating a - er - true democratic model of popular support.

Actually, thats the far left wing model for THIS country. Strip it of its religious foundations and make anyone who worships God a criminal.

Nope! Far more powerful and dangerous.... Hugo has a lot more money (in the form of oil) and when people are poor, they look up to those that have the money. It's going to be a long hard struggle before Hugo is gotten rid of.

Your perception is very clear; Hugo is the most destabilizing thing that could have happened to the South American frail democracies, let alone to my country. Mind you a gullible and stupid resentful thug loaded with cash being adviced by his lifetime criminal hero, how much worse can it get? Get prepared to pay through the nose for gasoline...

Shouldn't be a surprise, really. Chavez is a communist, and they hate religion.

The colombian army control only 1/3 of their own country and can't defeat their own marxist rebels. What makes you think they'd go to war against Venezuela? And for what gain?

I was clearly joking.

There is no strategic rationale whatsoever for a military facility in this area - unless Chavez intends to fight his own people.

The building is nothing fancy. It mystifies me that they would seize it.

Either Chavez is crazy, picking fights with the Church when they have offered cooperation, or he is surrounded by thugs who hate the church and figure they can get away with it, or he has decided he can begin to intimidate the church with impunity. Or, obviously, all of the above.

I note that in the same issue of El Universal they quote FARC as declaring war on religious leaders, calling on their people to murder any in their areas of operation without claiming credit for the hit.

Chavez is surrounded by thugs, there's no question about that. They are lining their pockets with all sort of scams while the 'great leader' is given assurances 24/7 that all is fine and dandy. He is kept in a bubble with heavy doses of Lithium; trusts no one; does not dare to walk among the people any longer... The USA should do well in revoking all tourist visas to notorious chavistas; their ill aqcquired properties in Florida and other places must be confiscated and bank accounts freezed. When that happens, they'll turn back and bite Chavez in the bollocks and, without a doubt, will kick him out of office for whatever they say, they just die to go spend their fortunes up north. The US can turn them against Chavez, quite simple if you ask me, alas policy towards Venezuela appears to be designated and implemented by Liberal idiots who love the prospect of propping up another Castro just for the sake of given the finger to the Republicans. Sheer stupidity and outright treason, that's what it is.
