BALTIMORE (AP)-Lisa Van Susteren, a psychiatrist and sister of Fox television's Greta Van Susteren, launched her bid for the U.S. Senate on Thursday, presenting herself as a fed up citizen and an alternative to career politicians.
The Democrat said she wants to fix the nation's health care system and doesn't think current lawmakers are up to the task.
"I am not a career politician," she said during a campaign kickoff speech. "I am a citizen fed up with the way the country is headed."

Forensic psychiatrist Lise C. Van Susteren of Bethesda will make her candidacy official on Thursday with announcements in Baltimore and Bethesda.
Chris Black, a political consultant for Van Susteren, said the campaign has hired some top-shelf political aides: Tad Devine, a top adviser to last year's Kerry campaign, and Diane Feldman, a pollster for Kerry who has worked for a number of Democrats nationwide. Lisa McMurray, a top aide to Virginia gubernatorial contender Tim Kaine (D), is Van Susteren's campaign manager.
Van Susteren, 54, whose younger sister is Fox News personality Greta Van Susteren, will hone in on the health care problems and the Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq, Black said.
"As a physician, she feels that she has been picking up the pieces of a broken health care system," Black said. "She is not a politician. She is an outsider. She is not beholden to anybody. She is running because she thinks that the country is going in the wrong direction."
