Congress has been called back in emergency session...24 hours to arrive for national emergency.
Kelly O'Donnell, reporting from the White House, had to first mention Bush's "29 day vacation" before proceeding to her report of him flying over the hurricane-stricken area. Un-F-ing believable.
8) Create a GI Bill-type program for refugees, where if they sign up for an X-year commitment(subject to screening) they will be trained and hired as border patrol agents and helped with relocation. Reduces the cost of warehousing the refugees, spreads them out so local economies aren't overwhelmed, helps to seal the border, increases nat'l security, and starts to dry up the supply of illegal workers, freeing up other jobs for refugees.
None of us our safe with Congress back..
Now let's see in good ol' Congress gives state and local pols a Congressional get-out-of-jail-free card....
Here's my opinion as to what President Bush needs to do. Ask for network broadcast time and speak to the American people.
After explaining all the horrows of this tradgedy, and reciting some stories of heroism, we should speak directly first to the oil companies. Tell them they need to suck it up and hold the line on fuel prices for now.
Then speak directly to the nations of the world. Explain that many times in the past, when other nations have been swamped in a tradgedy, the U. S. has been right there to help. We need their help now. We need them to hold the line on oil prices.
Then speak directly to American oil futures speculators, Tell them that they need to stop trading on tradgedy, and refuse to engage in trading that earns windfall profits. To fall on their financial sword for the benefit of the American people.
The phrase of the night needs to be "don't trade on tradgedy". The tradgedy of Hurricane Katrina.
I'm undecided as to whether President Bush needs to explain what steps he is willing to take, if these three groups, the oil companies, other nations, and U. S. oil futures speculators, refuse to stop the mad sprial of oil price increases.
But he has to take the lead in calling for a stop to profit taking and "trading on tradgedy". If he doesn't, as a nation we could be facing financial ruin. It's as serious as a heart attack.
Now the problem gets way worse. This is terrible news.
I thought the governor had the authority to declare martial law.
Congress called back huh?
Worst news I have heard in a week.
When they were away they couldn't f*ck anything up.
That occured to me as well. Perhaps Bush should recess appoint him.
That's the best idea I've heard all day. You should contact your congresscritter with it. BTW, thanks for the run down on the previous thread re: how there could be 200,000 to be evacuated. It makes sense now.
Instead of spending tax money to rebuild New Orleans, it should be spent to build nuclear power plants, build refineries, drill in Alaska. Maybe create agencies like the TVA during the last Depression (1930's). Construction and drilling should start "Yesterday".
Wow thats gonna upset a lot of our citizen government leaders,,having to leave their jobs as farmers and businessmen to go back to DC...geez..our Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves..what a bunch of losers we have running our country.
Well. That deletion certainly saved something. Whatever. Here we are.
Thanks for the thread ken. I wouldn't have known when it is, except it all disappeared when I hit refresh, before I could catch the time.
When is this supposed to happen?
