Crosses vandalized at antiwar mom's Texas camp site
6 minutes ago
A pickup truck ran over wooden crosses erected at anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan's campsite on Monday night, in the latest sign of tension over the peace vigil outside vacationing President George W. Bush's Texas ranch.
Larry Northern, 46, of nearby Waco, Texas, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in connection with the incident, Crawford Police Chief Donnie Tidmore said.
Sheehan has pitched a tent on Prairie Chapel Road, which leads to Bush's ranch, and calls her site "Camp Casey," after her 24-year-old son, who was killed in combat in Iraq in April 2004.
The small, white wooden crosses erected at the site are hand-painted with the names of soldiers killed in Iraq.
Sheehan, of Vacaville, California, has demanded a meeting with Bush at which she said she wants to call for the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq.
While Bush has expressed sympathy for Sheehan's grief, the White House has declined a meeting. Sheehan previously met with Bush in 2004 but wants another meeting.
Michelle Mulkey, a spokeswoman for Sheehan, said protesters were still awake on Monday night when a truck dragging a pipe and chains drove over a portion of the area where the crosses were standing.

Somebody want to explain to me what this bone-headed, stupid move accomplished? Say what you want about Sheehan, but when some asswipe starts effing with tributes to fallen servicemembers I draw the line.
Since when does the left care about crosses? Maybe the ACLU should threaten to have them removed or face a lawsuit.

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
But all this actualy accomplishes is it gives Sheehan and company what they want--a reason to portray themselves as victims, and one more day in the news. So they benefited quite nicely from this guy's stupidity.
Tribute? That is stretching it to kingdom come.
I wonder, how many non-Christians are listed on those crosses.
Speak for yourself, these are NOT tributes.
Yes, it was wrong and stupid.
But it is also wrong and stupid to call those crosses a "tribute". No, we must at every point point those "tributes" out for what they are...merely a protest prop.
You are so right. This is not the kind of statement we want attributed to our camp.
I don't trust anything coming from the "establishment media". When the FULL story comes out in a couple of days, it could be something very innocent, or maybe the guy in the truck had a damn good reason. Were the crosses in the middle of the road in such a way to prevent traffic? Was the guy driving the truck a member of the ACLU, and saw the crosses on a public road and his liberal instinct took over right away? I don't know, but something smells a little fishy. I don't think we're getting the full story yet.
Sickening. The names are being used by the left and trashed by an idiot.
see photos on this thread...no tires tracks and they dressed up the crosses with little American flags

A dumb move by the driver that, like the shots fired yesterday, will only embolden Sheehan and her crew with a sense of martyrdom.
We managed the Terri Schiavo thing with dignity, without stooping to implied violence, and it'd be a shame and a loss for our side if the debate couldn't be raised down in Texas.
If my son or daughter had been killed in Iraq or Afghanistan I would be appalled and deeply offended if some unpatriotic antiwar group of moonbats were to include his or her name in their hateful propaganda.
Have you lost anyone to the war? No? OK, then you have no right to presuppose anything.
EXACTLY!
They only care about making political points. Dead GI's mean sh*t to them, always have. They spit on them in Vietnam and they're doing it now.
Her site? Sorry, but you should actually OWN the property before you name it.
