Border Patrol Agents Blast Politicians' Strategy - California Checkpoints Questioned
CommonVoice ^

Posted on 08/05/2005 1:35:51 PM PDT by Happy2BMe

Imagine the manager of the San Diego Padres requiring outfielders to remain in one location in the outfield while playing. The other teams would immediately figure out the weakness in the Padres’ strategy. Although outfielders might catch a few balls in the first innings, eventually, they would only catch balls hit right to them. Now, instead of telling the Padres’ manager to stop restricting the outfielders’ movement in the field, imagine the owner of the Padres concluding the outfielders were ineffective and no longer needed in the outfield. In an effort to improve the team, the owner tells the manager to move all outfielders to the infield to strengthen their efforts and improve their chances of catching the ball.

Isn’t this idea ridiculous? It is and this concept is what happened with the United States Border Patrol in San Diego. In 1996, Immigration and Naturalization Service and Border Patrol policies restricted other checkpoint enforcement operations. Agents were no longer permitted to patrol day-labor sites, transportation hubs, and other areas where illegal aliens regularly gathered. Patrolling the side roads while the checkpoints were operational was also terminated. These enforcement activities are within the authority of the Border Patrol and increased the effectiveness of the checkpoints.

At the same time, Congressman Robert Packard concluded Border Patrol checkpoints on highways I-5 and I-15 would be more effective if they were operated seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day and incorporated language into the appropriations bill which required the I-5 and I-15 checkpoints to operate 24/7. Consequently, all of these negative events caused apprehensions to plummet.

Congressman Darrell Issa recently said, “Closing the Temecula and San Clemente checkpoints would improve the Border Patrol’s chances of catching undocumented immigrants and seizing illegal drugs.” Officials of National Border Patrol Council, Local 1613 strongly disagree with this statement. Local 1613 officials previously informed Congressman Issa of a misuse of resources within the Border Patrol and the checkpoints on I-5 and I-15.

Closing the checkpoints and moving 200 agents from these checkpoints to the border is not the solution for reducing the number of illegal entrants. As long as people around the world know that once they circumvent the infield, there is an unmanned outfield and they will score a hit and make it to home base in the United States without any fear of being caught. There is no doubt the terrorists are exploiting this vulnerability.

The Border Patrol must maintain an outfield that is free to play their legal positions; otherwise, Border Patrol Agents assigned to checkpoints will continue to catch only the few people who hit the ball directly to them and the checkpoints will never be successful.

Depressing as hell, ain't it.

It is depressing to see your country falling. But it is more depressing to see the Americans who don't care, as long as their politicial party is is power - and that is the current crop of Republicans.

Now with the Democrats, they are the abortion party. Many good Christians look the other way and vote straight Democrat. Sometimes I wonder if God's judgement isn't coming on all of us for the sins of these two parties.

Yeah, it is. But you know what? Most of America agrees with us....75%, and if that means civil disobediance, then so be it. I suggest a major march on DC, and we all need to sign up for border duty. I have offered the 3rd week of August to the Minutemen, and am awaiting a reply. My record is clean back to the fetus, so I have a good chance.

If God is considering it, I wouldn't blame Him : )

I go past both check points regurlary and most of the time there might be 2 or 3 personel working but 25-30 border patrol cars parked there and the check points are closed a lot of the time.

There are a lot of BP sitting in their office doing nothing that could be out rounding up illegals plus if traffic backs up a certain distance they have to close the check point and allow traffic to go through, really stupid.

"but gee - doesn't any of these wretched people ever think of the future?"

Their (our politicians) future is only until the next election!

"I STILL can't believe it myself, but reality is reality."

Why are you able to see the reality under a republican president and so many other FReepers can't?

The problem with this 2-party system is that it has left Americans with no way out - no political mechanism with which to right itself.

Both political parties are hellbent on totalizing the United States with Mexico. It's a known fact.

Pick up a label of any product and tell me what language at least half of it is written in.

I think those Republicans and Democrats who give their support to their parties over their country think they will get in the good graces when the Mexicans take over. Boy, have they got a lot to learn. They'll be put in a dark hole just like the rest of us. Wake up, you stupid people! Your country is gone!

Our politicians war is against the American citizens - Democrat and Republican.

Myths and lies of illegal immigration

I'm surprised this one got by the censors on FR. I tried to post an article that told about the crooked way the Republicans passed CAFTA, and was denied access. I think it is me they don't like. Wonder why?

That's interesting that you have been stopped and searched. I have gone to Mexico several times from San Diego and have never been stopped or searched either traveling by car or walking across the border to catch the electric rail back to San Diego.

Also have never been stopped at the 70 mile checkpoint. (Maybe it's because I'm the right color? But my husband is very white, almost transparent!!)

I've traveled the whole pennisula by car and by boat so many times I've lost count. Trust me, if you drive to Cabo San Lucas you will go through 4 or 5 checkpoints. If you go by boat you will be stopped by the Mexican Navy half way down. I get searched at almost every checkpoint. I've been searched and handcuffed by a guy with no badge for just being parked at K55.I've been pulled over and had soldiers with machineguns in my face after legally duck hunting on the mainland of Mexico. Of course, when I drive to Mexico, I follow the law. If I am transporting goods or building materials, I stop and let them search me on the way in, and pay the taxes for what I have. One time I had my carpentry tools, and was stopped about halfway down and told that I had to return because I had no work permit. The only reason I was allowed to continue was because I was building my family's house, and I could give them a date when I would return to the States. I guess my point is that the rules and searches in Mexico are much more stringent than here.
