Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Two Arab terrorists killed an Israeli couple and injured five others in an attack on a car at the Kissufim crossing Saturday night. Soldiers killed one terrorist and are looking for the second.

The murdered couple was returning to their home in Jerusalem after visiting Ganei Tal in Gush Katif for the Sabbath.

Three passengers in the car suffered light to moderate injuries and all of the victims were ferried by helicopter to Be'er Sheva's Soroka Hospital. Two security officers also were wounded, including Ami Shaked, head of security for the Gaza Coast Regional Council, who suffered light injuries. An army reserve soldier underwent an operation at Soroka Hospital for a back injury.

The terrorist fired at several cars west of the bridge near the crossing. Soldiers in an engineering unit rushed to the scene and killed one of the terrorists.

The attack occurred around midnight after the army had closed the road, the only approach to Gush Katif communities, following a shooting attack around 11:15 p.m. The IDF, after searching the area, re-opened the roads and allowed vehicles to travel in convoy with an army escort at the beginning and end.

Two terrorist gangs, the Islamic Jihad and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade associated with the Palestinian Authority (PA), claimed they were behind the shooting.

Earlier in the day, Arab terrorists fired two mortar shells and an anti-tank rocket on Israelis following two days of relative quiet while American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited. She praised the Palestinian Authority (PA) for fighting terrorism but said it had to work harder.

No big deal. The important thing is:

Rice says Israel must allow freedom for Gaza Strip

Condi's in the region, she could stop at the funeral. Then again, there'll be more opportunities.

Shame on the victims for not cooperaing.

Sean McCormack of the US state department said the shooting "underscores the importance of the parties working individually and in co-operation to maintain an atmosphere of calm free from violence during this period prior to the withdrawal and during the Gaza disengagement".
