Think about it ... he's a lawyer, a good conservative, was a prosecutor (wasn't that sKerry's only "real" job?) and he is in a similar position now as was Cheney when GWB was looking for a Veep. The huge plus factor is that he's a former colleague of most of the Senators and he will give as good as he gets in any confirmation hearing.

My biggest problem with Thompson for Supreme Court is that I was thinking about him Presidential material for 2008. All the qualities you mentioned plus the gift of being a great public speaker/actor.
