Gleneagles - US President George W Bush collided with a local police officer during a bike ride on the grounds of the Gleneagles golf resort while attending a meeting of world leaders, the White House said on Wednesday.
Bush suffered scrapes on his hands and arms and the police officer was taken to a local hospital, said White House spokesperson Scott McClellan.
It was raining lightly at the time.
The extent of the policeman's injuries were not known, but he might have an ankle injury, he said.
The fall did not affect the president's schedule.
He went ahead with a dinner hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at the annual G8 economic summit, McClellan said.
The officer, who was on a security detail, is a member of the Strathclyde police department, McClellan said.
Bush has fallen on his bike before.
I think he can't use the treadmill because of an injury; which is why he no longer jogs. I read somewhere that he was extremely frustrated with the whole exercise thing after that until he started biking...because he likes to go very, very fast. I wonder if the SS detail has to draw straws to see who has to keep up with him.
In any case, I doubt it's a photo op thing. I think it's an effort to keep from punching out insufferable G8 leaders.
Somewhere on the Democratic Underground a thread has started about how they can use this to impeach the President for assaulting a police officer.
Complete with memo's to back up the charges! ;-)
I don't doubt it ;~D
Notice that the idiot Kerry had the audacity to wear a yellow jersey too? Who does he think he is, Lance ?? Baaa-Rrrurther!
Why is it ridiculous???? He has a right to choose whatever method of exercise he wants. I have a brother who mountain bikes all the time. He falls off too. One who doesn't is riding it hard enough.
OK, this one doesn't have anything to do with the Tour de France, but it IS current news about cycling... LOL. Thanks for the ping, Cagey. Did Bob Roll comment on Dubya's mishap?
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my Tour de France 2005 list.
"The president talked with the officer to make sure he was all right, and also asked White House physician Richard Tubb to monitor the officer's condition at the hospital."
Another glaring difference between Bush and Kerry.

Preparing for the upcoming Supreme Court Nomination Battle, Bush prepares for an onslaught by testing out 'collision course' with his bike (forgot to ask the scot cop if he minded being the "test dummy")...Hopefully, the democrats will wind up feeling the President's "tour de force" with this nomination!
I read an article awhile back that Bush is very aggressive on his bike. Has trails now in Texas. I recall the SS guys sometimes have a tough time keeping up with him, one guy ended up with a broken arm or cllar bone or something.
Ouch! What a way to celebrate his birthday! (Ironic that Kerry's bicycle blunder barely broke the news...)
Very good point, fortunecookie. I had forgotten all about Kerry's mishap. See? The MSM is doing an effective job! :-(
LOL. They're very proud of that.
If Leno et al had any tiny notion of being 'fair' (and Leno is more fair than O'Brien or Letterman), they would somehow work in how at least Bush didn't blame his mishap on his body guard like Kerry did. I won't hold my breath. ;-)
